I know most of you celebrated this over one month ago, but the Orthodox Church worldwide, which is the largest single Chrsitian group after the Roman Catholic Church, is celebrating Palm Sunday this Sunday. We use the older Gregorian calendar to set our Church feast days, so they differ from the Roman Catholic Church and all protestants who changed to the Julian calendar.

Everyone's invited to attend their local, or regional Orthodox Church this Sunday, to participate in the festivities. In the U.S. you should be able to find on listed in your phone book--it's best to look for a parish associated with the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), ROCOR, or Antiochian parish, as these jurisdications of the one Orthodox Church generally do their services in English. Some other parishes associated with the Serbian, Ukrainian, and Greek jurisdications may do them in English as well, but it's best to call ahead to make sure. If you have any questions visit us in The Ancient Way section of Christian Forums.

Happy Palm Sunday!

Basil

To Life Immortal

OOOOOOO YEAH! I'm getting ready. I love the cattails on the willows they give out at church.

In fact, I have a cutting right now on my makeshift altar. Check out this link for info on the care and feeding of cat willows.

It's easier to remember it if you recall that it was POPE Gregory and the other was Julius CAESAR.

Not really. A few different hymns. Priest splashes everyone with holy water. Joy abounds.

Oh, and all the C&E Christians start crawling out of the woodwork.

Christmas and Easter.

C&E Christians only attend Church on those days. (Oh, and on baptisms, funerals, etc.)

[rolls eyes]

It is a perfectly good word - everybody knows what I am talking about - and I know of no better name for the plant.

No, I mean I reckoned it would be caught by the language filter. I haven't got any qualms about using "that word".

Babochka called them "cat willows"... sounds good to me. :)

Thanks for telling us about this and for your ind invitations! :) Wow...I'm already thinking about Pentecost! God bless you all. I hope you have a happy and holy Easter celebration and grow closer to Our Lord Jesus Christ. I think I'll look for an Orthodox Church-I love my own Church's liturgy at Easter because it is traditional...I'm sure the Orthodox liturgy will be even more beautifully traditional. :liturgy:

Can I just ask whether I'd be allowed to receive Communion in an Orthodox Church?

In the love of Christ,

Your brother Robbie

You have to be Orthodox to receive Orthodox Communion.

You have to be Orthodox to receive Orthodox Communion.

And that's available to anyone who desires it.

Fair enough. :)

Thank you very much! I must admit I am certainly more than a little tempted! :sorry:
