AMEN...Meaning and Why We Say It?

I myself don't know why we say Amen and the meaning behind it, I have just always known to say it but never questioned its meaning and origin. My 4yr. old son has asked this question and I have tried to do some research on it but I haven't really found anything on it. I'm hoping to anwser his question and learn something myself.
