View Full Version : I've Left

My family decided to leave the ICCEC. I'm giving up my full STR membership and won't be considering myself an STR member on this board (I won't be debating anymore). I must say that though we left the ICCEC I'm still traditional and still want to become a priest in some Apostolic denomination. We are now attending a Charismatic church, however I still uphold the Holy Tradition of the "One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church". And one day, Lord willing, I will join an Apostolic Church again. :)
God bless, Freak4JC

Well, at age 17 you are to a certain extent committed to participate in church with your family. But it'd be my personal view, not in any official capacity, that if your commitment is to belief after the Anglican tradition, you have every right to be a full member of STR. We're certainly a diverse enough group already to accept that variation-on-a-theme!
There are charismatic parishes in the Episcopal Church, and I believe there are ones in at least some of the Continuing groups, though I can't speak to that firsthand. If they haven't found a new church home, encourage a little "parish shopping."

the iccec is a charismatic church , i thought
why are they leaving, what kind of church are you going to now?
would your parents be bugged if you stayed at the iccec?
maybe if you threatened to become a jw, they would let you stay in the iccec
i have seen assembly of god churches that were very sympathetic to anglican spirituality to the point of advocating labyrinths even
i think a lot of good can be said about charismatic churches
and oh oh,, check this out

Indeed, Polycarp. I believe the forum rules say 'self-identify' as Anglican, and you don't need to attend an Anglican church to self-identify as one. I for one sincerely hope you stay round on the board. Whatever you decide though, i pray you are welcomed into your new church and that you feel happy and comfortable there (just don't drift too far from your apostolic roots!)
God bless,
Tom

I'm not going to completly leave, I'm just not going to debate. About finding a church... My family is very Charismatic and said that if there was a Charismatic liturgical Church that they enjoyed then okay, but there isn't. I've tried to no avail.
I remember the verse:
Exodus 20:12
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. (KJV)

I'll still be around on the STR. About my "drifting too far from your apostolic roots" that won't be a problem for me. The worst part is joining/partaking-Eucharist there. I can not officially become a member with peace of mind (being that it isn't an Apostolic Church) so I'm not officially joining (Praise the Lord that my parents are okay with that). And I wish that I could still participate in "real" Apostolic Eucharist.

the iccec is a charismatic church , i thought you are correct
why are they leaving, Why "we" ;) left I'd rather not go into what kind of church are you going to now? A non-denominational Charismatic church
would your parents be bugged if you stayed at the iccec? I don't want to stay there (for personal reasons that I'd rather not go into)
maybe if you threatened to become a jw, they would let you stay in the iccec LOL! Because of my recent interest in learning about what they believe my parents warned me against joining them. (not that I ever would  ) :)

isnt there just a regular ecusa parrish around?
do you like your new church?
are you something of an item of interest due to your anglo and ortho leanings?
do you dare get into it even?
do you think they will insist on some type of deliverance service if they find you with a rosary or a copy of a bcp or catch you crossing yourself?

It wouldn't feel right. I lean more on being Orthodox except that I'm also Charismatic. :)

Well... at 16, I've just left my parent's non-demon church to become a full-time Anglican, so...

There are a lot of factors which determine how well one can or can't go to the same church as their parents. You have to follow your heart for what is right for you.

I do not wish to go back to my old church for the same reason my parents don't. :)

Would you mind sharing them? So that we might help you out? I'm certain the mods, in your case, won't mind a little "constructive criticism."

There were bad things happening in my parish, we tried to work it out, the bishop wouldn't help us fix the problems. We didn't want to leave but there was nothing else we could do. I will not go into what the problem was but I will say that it wasn't a homosexuality, abortion, or any other conservative vs. liberal problem.

The Bishop permited a meeting with a priest outside our parish, that priest (we visited his church that sunday and he said, "I'll meet with you this week") never met with us, The Bishop stopped returning calls.
My only hope is to find a Apostolic Church that's charismatic (it would take a miracle at this point) or I'll have to go to an un-Apostolic church. :sigh:

Father Rick's denomination is charismatic, isn't it? I know he himself is...

I think wether an Old Catholic Church is charismatic differs from parish to parish, but I could be wrong. :)

Perhaps it would be worth looking into any charismatic Roman Catholic churches in your area?
Father Rick

I'm paraphrasing, but the OCCNA official canons say something to this effect:
"We acknowledge and accept that there are various spiritual gifts exercised within the Church, including but not limited to gifts of healing, prophecy, miracles, diverse tongues and the interpretation of tongues... These are manifested at different times throughout Church history as are needed... They are seen most clearly within the corporate worship of the Church... "
There are varying degrees of 'Charismatic-ness' depending on the particular priest/parish. While I am one of the 'most' charismatic, I am about to have 3 transitional deacons assigned to me from equally Charismatic backgrounds. As 'transitional' deacons, they would each be ordained to the priesthood in about a year or so.

hmm well since I dont know exactly where you live it will be quite hard to find a parish near you. but you can go to http://www.masstimes.org. They have listings for just about any Catholic parish. You can just visit the Parishes websites in your area and see if they are Charismatic. I wish you luck in your journey Freak4JC! I hope you find an Apostolic church to your liking :)

Some folks go to services in two or more different churches to get their required doses of the charismatic and the catholic. I see one of them in the mirror occasionally.
