Personally I don't particulary fear death. It's the intervening time that gets me. The flesh fears death...but perfect Love casts out fear. Are we then perfect? Not yet...but we work towards it through our Lord Jesus. I give thanks to God for this life and for the life to come. :amen:

Consider His response:

Luk 22:40 When He arrived at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation."
Luk 22:41 And He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and {began} to pray,
Luk 22:42 saying, "Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done."
Luk 22:43 Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him.
Luk 22:44 And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.

I used to fear death, but now I don't. I'm not crazy about the process leading up to death, but I am assured that I will be with Jesus immediately upon death.

Max, I think some of your distress is due to your youth. At 57, I've done way too much in my life and you feel that your life is just beginning. Relax and enjoy life. Live each day as though it's the last in a Christian way and you'll get the most out of it!

Christians should fear death in this sense: look both ways before you cross the street.

I dont fear death. I fear suffering, but I know it will happen and I also know God will sustain me.

After almost dying so many times in my childhood I found something out, dying isn't really as bad as it is chalked up to be. Don't be afraid the events leading to death(at least the ones I have expierenced) arn't all that bad, and afterwords, you are with you Father, and King Jesus Christ. sometimes being alive here scares me more that death ever has. God bless you.

P.S. where have you been? your other thread has a lot of replies, have you read them?

I personally do not fear death because if you are a Christian.. your flesh will be dead but your spirit and soul will be with the Lord.

It's not MY death that really bugs me... it's those that I am leaving behind that really drives home some fear.

The Idea that my family will not have me with them on this earth, scares me. That my children will not have me as a "Daddy" to raise them. or go to with their problems. The fact that my wife will not have me there to provide for her and share the evening hours together. Those things scare me.

Dieing, Nah, that is not the scary part.
it's knowing who your leaving behind that tugs on your heart.

God Bless
Vigil.

Virgil's response is one of the best I have ever seen to this question. I learned long ago in Vietnam that death was not something to fear. But, it is natural for man to fear the unknown. Perhaps it would help your fear if you read through t he passages dealing with death and the afterlife. If you are a Christian and are assured of your new life in Christ you shouldn't fear death. It becomes nothing more than a transition to a better life.

Since getting married and having a family my only fear is for those who will be left behind and how they will fair in my absence. But, if we have done our jobs as husbands and fathers they too should be ready for their own deaths at anytime without fear. This will mean that they have a mature understanding of G-d and His sovereign care and they will be able to say, like Paul, "I know whom I have believed in, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him until that day."

I believe God's grace is sufficient, and God's presence is so strong upon Christian when it is time to die, and as we die we come closer to Him...

2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us the Spirit of Fear, but the spirit of truth, love, and of a sound mind.

If we are right with God and are pursuing his will in our lives we have nothing to fear. Remember John 8:44 The devil is the father of Lies and he wants us to live in fear of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All past, present, and future sins are forgiven by Jesus as long as we are making an effort not to willfully sin and try our best to live righteously. The devil is always there trying to make us feel guilty of sinning and wants us to think that there is punishment for sinning. God doesn't punish us but he corrects us out of his love for us. Sometimes we have to suffer because we are to stubborn to turn from our sins and he has to get his point across because he knows what is best in our lives for then we know our own lives.

In Philippians it talks about working out our salvation with fear and trembling. It is saying that we have to make a conscious effort to change our past and start over and focus our eyes on Jesus and our eternal reward. We only fear that personal pride and greed will get in the way and do our best not to grieve the spirit.

Romans 5:3 Rejoice in your sufferings, because we know that sufferings produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

We don't enjoy pain and suffering but if we remain faithful to God in tough times it will strenghthen our characters, deepen our trust in God and give us hope for the future. We often find our patience tested every day but we need to grow from these situations and learn to rely on God's strength to make it through.

Romans 8:37 In all these things we are more then conquerors through him who loves us. That would be Jesus and he will never forsake us. Jesus has conquered fear for us we have to rely on his righteousness to strengthen our characters and spirit.

All Glory and Praise to the Perfection of the Holy Trinity. :amen:
