Vestry? Rector? Christian Ed. Director?

Mind giving the story, son? :)

Must be SOME conflict!

Generally, the rector is in charge of hires/fires...unless you have an interim, in which case, the Senior Warden would be in charge of this.

Edit: But DO try to work it out, if you are able. My guess is that you probably have LOTS to teach this youth director!

She though spring vacation lasted for five weeks, totally butchered our Stations of the cross by refusing to do anything on about a week or two's notice, hasn't met with the youth once, and is trying to manage each and every minute of our time at Kanuga. (literally is taking us away from our praents and putting us in a house. errr)

Then, I guess the Senior WEarden, becosue we have an intern.

Wait a minute...start from the top. You've truly confused me...

The group after us was really upset that we used incense in the chapel.
They opened all the doors and windows.

I'm a bit lost right now.

Can we please back up and start again?

Incense is really no different from "Holy Laughter" mentioned in a recent thread here, at least from what I here about the use of incense here.

So, it sounds lik yoursenior warden replaced your youth leader with an interm one.

Except for the fact that incense is biblical and firmly rooted in tradition.

CSMR, please. "Holy laughter" is a supposed "charism." How the heck is incense a charism? Fallacy of False Dichotomy.

Our youth Minister doesn't know how to be a youth minister. Problem is, she's fully qualified.

How many times is censing the altar mentioned in exodus?
How many times is Holy Laughter mentioned in the Bible?

Benedictine, I would suggest talking with the kids and collect their thoughts, opinions, and ideas about the problem. Bring these, with some ideas to improve, to the youth minister. Be curteous, but firm.

If this doesn't work out, discuss the matter with your priest(s).

What is the trouble?
Did she try to give you all wine in a coke can?
or Was it a theological difference or stylistic difference?
If it was theological, was it a big issue or a little issue?

Y'know, our youth leader has just left (hallelujah!) who was a really nice guy--we loved him, but me and him had major theological issues--music being a biggie. Issues with a youth leader aren't fun--I advise taking it head-on with someone important in your church. Seriously. If we have another similar youth leader come out, I will be actively campaigning for St. Helena's to not support him/her.

I am not saying incense is wrong in itself. Rather its use here seems to be to create some sort of special experience (charism?) and to set its users apart from the unsympathetic rest of the Church. As "Holy Laughter" is used by absurd people to given them airs over reasonable people, isn't incence taken on here by young people to put them above their elders?
That is, at least, my impression from several threads on the subject.
The same thing of course could be done with things whose ingerent value is of no doubt.

This is interesting -- intriguing, even. I can think of any number of ways in which music can be a theological issue. What was your issue?

He believed that worship could only be psalms, sung acapella. I tend to take the view of Psalm 150--praise and worship should be using the amazing gifts of music that God has given us, drums, harps, guitars, pianos, whatever, used to praise and glorify God.

That was stressful. Also, he strongly believed in the seperation of the 'spiritual' and the 'non-spiritual'. He was a fantastic guy, so long as he wasn't in Bible-mode. Then he turned into this robot. He believed Christianity was all about answers. I believe Christianity DOESN'T answer a lot of questions--Christianity is about THE answer, Christ himself.

He also believed the Bible to be the 'holy, infallible Word of God'. I agree that the Bible, taken as a whole is the Word of God, as defined by the 39 Articles, which state something along the lines of: "The Bible is the Word of God, because God spoke through it and can still speak through it today", however I do believe God speaks in other ways too...

WOW - he sounds almost Calvinist!
Now - what was the Youth Director doing planning liturgy anyway? Didn't you guys have some kind of input? If not, maybe I need to apply for a job in Cyprus!

He WAS Calvinist. He was a reformed presbyterian. We have an interchurch youth group--hence an interchurch youth leader. St. Helena's has *3* teenagers. Not enough for a youth worker. When he was planning a 'youth service' at St. Helena's, I pushed for liturgy--he didn't want any. But yeah, if you want a job in Cyprus, we could always do with another good organist... although you'd probably agree with me that St H's organ needs replacing!
