My explanation tends to be:
"It's a Holy Mystery. Christ is present in some way--as he says it's his Body and Blood. Whether thats symbolic, we recieve it in a heavenly and spiritual manner, or in a physical manner, is really up to Him, rather than whatever else we might think. It *is* very important to the life of the church--the early church saw it as so important that they shared it daily."

Simple...Jesus said "This is my Body...This is my Blood."
He also said "One who does not eat of the Flesh and Blood has no life in oneself" (slight paraphrase).

Yeah, but I'm explaing what we believe in the Teens forum, and it's not working. I've made mistakes. Timothy, please post what you said above in the thread, if you can.

You've got to check out the Eucharistic Host miracle of Sienna (try here (http://www.therealpresence.org/eucharst/mir/siena.html)). This is consecrated Host that's a few hundred years old and still in good (perfect) condition (smells fresh, etc).
(I just hate that they keep it locked up like that. :( )

Have you seen the one where the bread and wine actually turned into flesh and blood when the priest prayed for God to help his faith? It's been around for something like 700 years, has been tested by various people over the centuries... type AB blood, which is the same blood type found on the Shroud of Turin. Stuff like that. It's pretty incredible. And hey, if it's real, it just asserts what we have been saying about the Real Presence all along. ;)

...From the "They'll believe anything" department.
Got any bottles of Mary's actual milk while you're at it? Or bathwater that Jesus actually bathed in? There was a time when everyone believed in those being true, too. And in a flat Earth.

I'm not saying it is true... but the fact that it's stayed perfectly preserved for at least 500 years, and has been tested by several people throughout history. I wouldn't just dismiss it as a hoax without looking into it some first. Sure it could be false, but then again, it could also be real.

I apologize, Lance. I shouldn't have said what I did.

I've always believed that our faith (through the Holy Spirit) changes the wine and bread into the body and blood, once it has entered into our bodies. That account of the "miracle" of the bread and wine turning into actual flesh and blood, ON THE ALTAR, makes it sound like a magic show. Maybe I'm being closed minded, but I just can't believe that.

And that's perfectly fine. Whether or not that miracle happened in no way affects our salvation.
