QNCE UPON A TIME...
there really were TWO kingdoms in Israel, TWO lines of kings, TWO Houses ... God recognises this in scripture, having His prophets address them as the House of Judah [the Jews] and the larger House of Israel [non-Jewish Israel]
2 Samuel 2:10 Ishbosheth Saul’s son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.
1 Kings 12:21 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
2 Kings 23:27 And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.
Isaiah 5:7 For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.
Isaiah 48:1 Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.

--- Now the Jews have a religion, Judaism, a religion that Jesus showed eventually was somewhat corrupted from what God gave them and which God himself expressed his displeasure with through His prophets, but it has nonetheless always kept the jews united as a PEOPLE , always knowing that they are part of Israel through Judaism...
The House of Israel however did not follow Judaism, but adopted other beliefs from the nations around them ... the result was that when the House of israel was scattered they mostly just disappeared into whatever nation they were in, they became "not a people"
Isaiah 7:8 For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.
Ephraim, the largest, and dominant tribe in the house of Israel ceased to be Ephraim, disappeared as a people into the gentiles , became absorbed into other nations ... but God did not lose track of them even though the world sees then as gentiles, God knows they are children of Israel [Jacob] (and genetics may soon be proving who are Israel and who are not, much research being done into that at this time]
God scattered BOTH Houses at differenet times amongst the heathen [gentiles, nations] nut the Jews never became "not a people" [I obviously mean AFTER becoming the House of Judah -- obviously your previous comments were attempts to misunderstand rather than trying to see what was being said] ...
But the House of Israel did vanish and become "not a people" , in fact they are the OMLY nation recognised by God who are paradoxically "not a people" and that is of great significance in scripture :-
Deuteronomy 32:21 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
--- thus IDENTIFIABLE Israel, basically the Jews, will be made jealous because they see that these GENTILE people have been given baptism of the spirit of their God in full and know that Jesus is Messiah of Israel and have received the blessings of the new covenant [confirming that they are indeed the House of Israel] ... again the Jews never became 'not a people' , they always have been a people, these are NOT the Jews, but indeed mUST be the house of Israel (since nO-ONE else is mentioned in the new covenant [READ it - Heb 8:8-12]
--- So in 1Peter we have [below] the House of Israel re-emerging FIRST ,before the Jews even believe in Jesus , as being baptised by God to be the royal priesthood, the 144,000 ...
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. [by the new covenant with the House of Israel and the Jews too eventually , before Jesus returns]
