This is to announce a discussion that will be held over baptism between Aggie03 and W. Jay Schroeder.

As for the scope and content of the discussion, this is not limited with the idea that in good faith both parties will maintain the proper course and intent of the conversation. Latitude must be given in order to assure that all questions are answered fully.

This will be unlike a debate in that there is no post limit. Rather this will be a discussion between the two individuals and shorter, more concise posts are preferred when possible. The structure for the discussion is as follows:

Aggie03: Initial post
W. Jay: response
Aggie03: response
W. Jay: response

No outside links may be posted whatsoever. Links to previous posts within the discussion are allowed. Images are allowed.

The Bible is to be used as the primary source, though outside sources may be quoted so long as proper documentation is given and it is understood that no doctrine or belief can be based on these.

The official translation of the discussion is the American Standard Version (ASV), originally published in 1901. This translation is in the Public Domain and therefore may be quoted freely. E-sword, an outstanding Bible software program may be downloaded for free from http://www.e-sword.net. There is a module containing the ASV. It is recommended that participants in the discussion obtain this valuable tool.

Also, as this is much less structured than a debate, there will be no time limit on posts, but should one participant go for a time period of greater than 7 days without posting, unless notification is given to the other discussion member, they will be seen as having conceded.

Aggie03 will be putting forward the assertion that one must be baptized for the remission of sins. The discussion will move forward from this point until either both parties are in agreement, or both individuals agree to end the discussion. His first post may be made 3 days after this initial post.

This thread will be the place for those not participating in the discussion to post comments or questions.

Three days will be allowed for additional members to join the discussion so long as approval is given by both W. Jay Schroeder and Aggie03 (this is not intended to be used to disqualify an individual, but rather to assure that uneven teams are approve).

Aggie03, you posted the following rule:

Also, as this is much less structured than a debate, there will be no time limit on posts, but should one participant go for a time period of greater than 7 days without posting, unless notification is given to the other discussion member, they will be seen as having conceded.

I just noticed that this was a post by you under your sister's name. I'm sorry that I wasn't paying more attention. I will have a response within a couple of days. Again, sorry for the delay!

This last post was given 12 days ago on April 20, 2005. According to your rules, have you conceded?

I propose continuing the discussion on 1 Corinthians 1:17-31...

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

I've posted in the discussion. Sorry about the confusion. I will be more careful to pay attention to who is posting. :)

I look forward to hearing back from you!
