I have 3 episodes of the Bible Answer Man commenting on the word of faith ministires. The episodes are amazing to listen to. I'd like to share them with anyone who wants them. The file sizes are big 20, 24, 24 megs. We'll have to do a file swap on MSN messenger or yahoo. Please add me to your friends list and we can do the swap. Or if you have a big email inbox I can email them to you.
Only requirment is that you'd post your comments on this thread after listening to them. Thanks.

Hey Dirt. As much as I would like to get these from you, is this legal? Are these files copyrighted or sold on Hanks site? If so, I would caution anyone against this. I know at oneplace.com anyone can hear his show for free but must pay for themp3.

Just wondering.

I emailed them to see if it was ok to do so. I'll post here if they ever answer me.

If its legal, I'd enjoy listening to them. I listen to Hank usually a few times a week. I bought his book "The Last Disciple," and it is really good. I literally did not stop reading it once I picked it up... I think I was reading it for like 5 hours straight!!!

Bill, that is cool, I was wondering how good the book would be. So much Christian fiction is awful. I listen to HH just about everyday, and though I don't agree sometimes he is pretty good. But then again I do listen to Catholic Answers live on occasion as welll, and some of them I feel the same way about ;)

Yeah, I would definitely recommend reading it. Especially if you want to explore the partial preterist view, or you are interested in something better than the Left Behind series. Hank's view makes sense to me but all hinges on Revelation being written before 65 AD. This date is disputed, and I really don't have an opinion on this. I know what you mean about Catholic answers. You probably had the same feelings I had when I listened to Hank's special on Martin Luther ;)

I actually didn't get to hear his special on Luther. Bought the movie though :)

I am gonna have to read this book now. I didn't read it because of the cost really, but if it is that good I may see if the church wants to buy it for the library ;) As librarian i must read it first...LOL

Sounds like a plan to me Bud! :)
Sounds like you got a nice deal you got going there as church librarian. I would love to get paid to read theology all day. Instead I get to market textbooks, yay! ^_^

Those gotta be a tough sell. Unless they are theology text books in which case I will take six dozen (just kidding ) :D

Nah, they're all foreign languages. I would love to move to the theology department though. They are not as tough a sell as you would think, they are college texts, and so you know your "client" is going to buy a book, you just need it to be yours and not that of your competitor. I don't usually do sales (I have done 2 but sort of by accident LOL), but I back up the sales force, and take breaks at work to post on the forum ;)

So give me the skinny. Why are these darn things so expensive? Come on spill the trade secrets !!! ;)

ps139
8th March 2005, 07:18 PM
Ok, yeah they are super expensive, and here is why.
To make a book you need to pay the authors, the editors, the marketing people, the production people, the sales reps, and anyone that reviews or contributes to the book. So they are kind of pricey for that reason.
Then.... the college bookstores hike up the price by about 20% to make their profit. For instance, we sell a book at a net price of $72.00, and I will see some college bookstore website sell it for $100.00, sometimes more!
If you know anyone in college I'd recommend buying the book from the publishing company's website, that way you do not have to pay the ridiculous markup at the bookstore.

That does make sense. I guess just look inside any cover and see who contributed to help explain the cost. Maybe that is why there are so many expensive Bibles today? Thanks for the info, buddy, and get back to the grind before they dock you a books worth of cash ;)

Hey if you get the right book, you might see my name on the copyright page ;)
You are probably right about the expensive Bibles. For Christmas my dad got me a nice leatherbound Bible, NLT translation, with all sorts of notes and research underneath the inspired text. It is really well done IMO. And there were like 8 million contributors! Most of them university professors and the like, and the Bible came with a CD Rom , it must have cost a lot!! NLT is now my top choice for reading books like Leviticus ;) :)

Yeah I have the Life Application Bible in NLT. I cannot tell you how much i appreciate this thing when I cannot figure the context of something. I don't know if that is the one you have or not but it is amazing how much time and effort that must have been put into this one.

I have a Spirit of the Reformation Bible (used to be called the New Geneva Bible) that I bought from the chief editor, at cost, Top Grain Leather for $40 shipped. I very rarely use it and have thought of giving it to the Presby pastor here in town, as he has agiant Bibel collection, but only if he gives me his hard backed Amplified Bibles. The AMplified Bible used to come in three volumes. The OT was split in half and the NT was by itself. I ahve the NT, but not the OT.

Hey why do you let me ramble on like this anyway? :)

What was on the cd-rom?

They have the Life Application in different varieties. The NIV, NLT, KJV, etc... IMO I agree, it is very well done.

Silly rabbit tricks are for kids :)
Example from the Amplified (http://www.biblegateway.com/versions/?action=getVersionInfo&vid=45):
John 1:1 "In the beginning [before all time] was the Word [Christ], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself [Isa. 9:6.] He was present originally with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. "

Another example is:
John 6:54 He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has (possesses now) eternal life, and I will raise him up [from the dead] on the last day.

John 6:57 Just as the living Father sent Me and I live by (through, because of) the Father, even so whoever continues to feed on Me [whoever takes Me for his food and is nourished by Me] shall [in his turn] live through and because of Me.

Romans 4:25Who was betrayed and put to death because of our misdeeds and was raised to secure our justification (our acquittal), [making our account balance and absolving us from all guilt before God].

Basically what they do in this Bible is give you words that could have been used in the translation, or clarifying statements that were not included in the original text but in their meaning they are there. It is a hard Bible to just read through but it is very useful when studying context and such without a Strongs handy :).

Because if you left this thread, I would be talking to myself!!!
Has that ever stopped you before :P

I don't know I didn't load it onto the computer yet!
BILL! What is up with that? According to the publisher: "The CD-ROM includes maps, charts, text, and a variety of other wonderful resources." I gotta know, what are the other wonderful resources? . . . . well? :D

Interesting...
Do you ever find that it has leanings toward any particular school of theology? Like Calvinist/Arminian etc?? I'm kind of wary of Bibles like that...I see it as a human being filling in the blanks.

But being in marketing, I can tell you that those "other resources" are little things not worth mentioning on their own ;).

Well as you can see it did not water down John 6 at all :) I am pretty sure the writer was evangelical, here is an article on her over at Lockman (http://www.gospelcom.net/lockman/amplified/) who are the publishers. I guess she was some sort of a savant (only word I could come up with) when it came to languages.

Quote from the site:
" The Amplified Bible is free of personal interpretation and is independent of denominational prejudice."

hehe figures. Alomst like buying a car, those extras turn out to be blinkers and such. When you get home check the box, and see if it says Illumina on for the software. If it does, that is an incredible program, like a 3d bible. HH talks about it alot. It might not work on your ancient computer, but maybe you could donate it to some worthy slob who is in the 21 century ;)

That sounds cool. I dont have it in front of me but Ilumina rings a bell.
If it ends up being too much for my comp to handle I will find some worthy slob LOL! :)
But you are right, my computer was made in the last millenium ^_^

Isn't there a 3 day rule for mp3's? Where you can have it for 3 days then you need to delete it? I emailed oneplace.com because that's where I bought them. Then They said to email equip.org so I did and no answer yet.

SumTinWong

wait for equip.orgs answer first. I hate to be a pain about it, but tell people all the time not to do it without permission and I would be a hypocrite if I did it myself.
