The Government has now published the Gambling Bill which it hopes will become law in 2005.

The Methodist Church, the Salvation Army and the children’s charity NCH believe that Parliament has a duty to protect children. Yet the Gambling Bill will not stop children gambling.

The Gambling Bill will begin its committee stage in the House of Lords on Thursday 10 March. Baroness Thornton hopes to amend the Bill to ban children from taking part in commercial gambling. We want as many peers as possible to support her.

In Canada, the legal age to gamble or claim winnings from a lottery ticket is 18 years. Is this not the case in England?

For lottery tickets the minimum age is, I believe, 16. The problem with children gambling is slot machines.

Just what we need... kids getting addicted to yet something else before they will even know what addiction is all about. It's mindless the way the government works sometimes... and I thought that Canada and the US were the only bad apples.

Probably, but remember they came out of a barrell called Britain.

The legal age limit applies to slot machines also...in theory. Where there's a will, there's a way. ANd slot machines are the one thing that the new bill actually does something about- it's just all the rest which up the creek withour a paddle.
We had a campaign coming out of the territorial youth rally last year. Looks like Tessa Jowell ignored our postcadr campaign...

How about E mailing your THQ? They might be able to register your support in some way. I dunno, it was just a thought that occurred to me.
