A friend of mine sent this to me this morning:

This is enough to cure me  !

I work in a factory and we have 2 employees who used to work in an envelope factory. They told me that when the machine jams up, they use whatever water is handy to thin out the glue. This includes water that they just mopped the floor with. Since then, I've avoided licking envelopes...

If you lick your envelopes... You won't anymore!!! A woman was working in a post office in California. One day she licked the envelopes and postage stamps instead of using a sponge. That very day the lady cut her tongue on the envelope. A week later, she noticed an abnormal swelling of her tongue. She went to the doctor, but they found nothing wrong. Her tongue was not sore or anything. A couple of days later, her tongue started to swell more, and it began to get so sore, that she could not eat. She went back to the hospital, and demanded something be done. The doctor took an x-ray of her tongue and noticed a lump. He prepared her for minor surgery. When the doctor cut her tongue open, a live cockroach crawled out!!!! There were roach eggs on the seal of the envelope. The egg was able to hatch inside of her tongue, because of her saliva. It was warm and moist... This is a true story reported on CNN.

Well even if that IS true, I must say...

don't most stamps come as self-stick now?

and i've learned to love the envelope/stamp sponge.

That same story was used against taco bell about 6 yrs. ago. But, it definately is something to think about.

debi, don't feel bad, after I heard this one used against taco bell, I wouldn't eat there for about 3 ears, and even now, I only get things without meat.

yuck, yuck, yuck!!!

Even if the story about the woman's tongue isn't true, I still don't care for licking mop-water glue! Think of all the mice that have been on those floors, and the bathroom floors those people's shoes have walked on, ....

Ugh, ugh ugh!!!

Most of those way out stories tend to be hoaxes. I doubt they use mop water either, but it sure makes for an interesting story.

Actually the snopes web site is pretty intersting reading - all the hoaxes and urban legends. Some of them have been floating around for 30 or 40 years.

Hi I'm Tishri and I'm new, I hate to start out my replies here on such a discusting topic but.....It's so good /bad I just can't stop myself!

My first Job ever was at Kentucky Fried Chicken, mind you this was 25 years ago....
I witnessned two rats in that place, one in the mop water and one that had been baked in Original Recipy batter (somehow it had fallen into the tub that we stored this batter in) and was put right in with the other cooked pieces. We discovered it when someone ordered a center breast with their 3 piece meal and we could not tell if it was a thigh or a breast piece. yuck!!!

See ya, Tishri
