Matthew 16:18

KJV: "There is one body, one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."
If there is one God, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, AND one Bible, then why are there so many different denominations in the world today? 1 Corinthians 1:10 states: "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." This is telling us that there should be no types of divisions among the world, and yet, we have a numerous amount of denominations all over the world.
Matthew 15:1-9 briefly states: "2Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. 3But he answered and said unto them,Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?... 8This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."
In the first century, there was one church, Christ's church. Over the years, man started branching off and creating their own types of doctrine and churches because they were displeased with the doctrine of the original church. Here are a few examples of churches that transgressed the commandments that Christ established in the Bible.
Roman Catholic Church-> Boniface III (606 A.D.)
Episcopalian Church-> King Henry VIII (1534)
Baptist Church-> John Smythe (1607)
African Methodist Episcopal-> Richard Allen (1816)
*each of these churches follows a different doctrine, but supposedly study the same Bible.
2 John 1:9 states: "Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son." How are we maintaining the doctrine of Christ if our churches were founded by men? Did these men die on the cross for your sins or did Christ?
The relationship between Christ and the church is the foundation of the institution of marriage (Ephesians 5:21-33). The church is Christ's bride. And like God made one woman for one man in the beginning (Genesis 2:21-24), thus Christ should only have one bride (the church). In the institution of marriage on earth, women bear the last name of their husband. Shouldn't Christ's bride (the church) wear His name since He pledged His life for it? The question I pose: Is your church the one that Christ died for?
