Dear all:
This is request for prayer my Priest has passed on to our Parish. If you feel led, would you please pray for the nomination of a hierarch for our Metropolis?
Thanks!

On February 17 and 18, 2005 the Eparchial Synod (our Metropolitans in the United States) will pray, deliberate and nominate three candidates for election as the new hierarch for the Metropolis of San Francisco. Each bishop will cast three votes and the top three names will be given to the Synod of Constantinople for a final decision. By tradition, the candidate with the highest votes is elected by the Patriarchal Synod.
The clergy of the Metropolis called a Synaxis (gathering) on February 3-4, at St. Nicholas Ranch and drafted a letter which will be read by Metropolitan Isaiah at the Eparchial Synod on February 17. A copy of the letter is provided below so that you can see how your clergy have described our Metropolis, its character, people and mindset.
This coming Sunday every Church in our Metropolis has been instructed to offer a prayer service for the election of our new hierarch. I have provided the concluding prayer of the service below. I am instructing our faithful to make a fervent plea to our Lord that His All-Holy Spirit may illumine the hearts and souls of the Eparchial Synod. Our role of praying for the election is vitally important!
A Prayer for the Election of a New Hierarch
O God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, pour forth the gift of Your Holy Spirit into the hearts and minds of our fathers and chief shepherds, our Archbishop Demetrios and all the members of the Holy Eparchial Synod of America, as well as our Patriarch Bartholomew and all the members of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, that they might discern Your will in electing a new bishop to serve this Metropolis. Grant them, O Lord our God, the fruit of Your Spirit, the Spirit of grace and counsel, diligence and caring, that they might elect as our bishop and God’s steward for this Metropolis a man who is blameless and above reproach, gentle, hospitable, a lover of goodness, wise, righteous, devout and self-controlled. May he be in all respects a model of good works and a teacher with a firm grasp of the Word that is trustworthy and true, that he might preach the sound doctrine of the Gospel throughout this Metropolis for many years to come.
