When the Bishop said, from the service book, that the office of reader was "...the first level of the priesthood," my knees went to jelly.
All in all it was an awesome experience.
Peace.

WooHoo !
Many years Reader Peter
We had dinner with his Eminence the night before in Macon. I got to sit with him and share appetizers and stories at a potluck dinner after his visit with clergy to our new Temple. I'll try to post a picture when I get it.

That's wonderful news! May the Lord use the words that you read chant to bless you as well as the people.

Congratulations, Reader Peter!
Abp DMITRI recently tonsured a Reader at our parish, too. It was the first time I actually got to speak with Vladyka. We are so blessed to have him as our Shepherd. :priest:

Congratulations! Many years! The layleader at our mission was just tonsured as a Reader last month by +Bishop BENJAMIN. When he qualifies for retirement (he teaches theater at one of our high schools), he wants to go to seminary, and would like to go to St. Herman's in Alaska. I hope your kids don't drive you crazy like his do. His kids keep asking "What would Reader Bob do?" or "What would Reader Bob say?"

I should say that he's seriously thinking about going to seminary.

Thanks to all of you for your words of encouragement. I hope to enter late vocations at some point, with the idea of becoming a priest. This, of course, if the Lord wills.
Peace.

Peter,
Having been tonsured a Reader by my Bishop (years ago), I - after reading a historical novel about Aidan of Lindsfarne, where he renewed his tonsure - inquired of my priest two Sundays ago the difference between "tonsure" and "ordination". He said, basically it means that you belong to the Church!
Heady stuff ; welcome, and may the Lord bless your voice and your chanting.
