Please join me in wishing our Catholic friends a blessed Lenten journey. May it be a time of great grace and peace for them. May God bless them and nurture their faith.

It is good to pray for our brothers in Christ who love Him and seek to do His will. As they travel through Lent, my prayers go with them.:crosseo:

I have many Catholic friends, including a non-practicing husband. I pray with you, Wiffey, that this would be a time of peace and reflection.

God bless you guys on your Journey! As usual, you'll have to tell us what it's like when you get there since we don't even START until a week before your Easter! lol

God bless you!

The Protestant church ("youth group") I was at tonight started Lent

Anyway, God Bless our Catholic brothers and sisters through Lent.:)

The prayers of the Church should be with those who are removed from her always, both Catholic and Protestant. May those who seek the Truth find it.

I just heard my Catholic co-worker, sitting behind me, discussing what she will give up for lent this year. She decided on giving up caffeine after 9 AM. Kinda makes you wish you were Catholic, no?

Oh, but she's blown it by not keeping it a secret, so it'll all be for nought ;) :P

Heh, kind of reminds me of my ex-Crusade 'brethren' who would brag about what they would give up for Lent (although I thought it was interesting that they NEVER observed Easter or anything in the actual Crusade meetings?!). "I'm going to give up caffeine!" "I'm going to give up chocolate!" And some of them fasted (total fast), which was billed as an excellent way to manipulate God...

I am very surprised Matrona did not correct you on this matter. Roman Catholic Lent began yesterday but Orthodox Catholic Lent begins with forgiveness vespers on March 13th. The Orthodox Church is Catholic, we just are not Roman Catholic.

I started the post on Ash Wednesday, so today the title makes no sense. I'll fix it...

I can't fix it. I tried to change the thread title to "Ash Wednesday". No such luck.

LOL! I know we are Catholic. But with the amount of debate (historically) about labels, I try real hard not to offend. Some folks don't like the term "RC", just like some of us dislike "EO". I don't want to use "VC", because it makes me think of Communists booby-trapping rice paddies.

We gotta come up with terminology that doesn't spark controversy or cause extreme confusion...

I am so glad our Church tells us what to give up. My mom has decided to give up fat for Lent. Not only is it a completely unhealthy diet (she's done it before) but it's also extremely sketchy theologically. I have friend who has decided to practice her instrument more for Lent. It's a good idea to practice more, especially when you're a professional musician, but again not so theologically sound.

Sometimes I think folks get Lent confused with New Years resolutions.

I think so, too. I am glad for the fast. It makes sure Lent hits you right in the stomach! :)

And for we Eastern and Oriental Catholics, Great Lent began a week ago, February 6, our Sunday of Forgiveness.

If you're fortunate enough to still be on the "old" Calendar :(

Oh well, when I become Ecumenical Patriarch the first thing I'll do is call a council and work with the other Bishops to get rid of all of the pews and bring us back to the "old" Calendar. ;) lol
