Well, now that Lent has officially begun, what sort of physical/spiritual discipline is everyone planning on undertaking?

I'm re-reading the Naria chronicals and Volenteering at my friends church. This is a ulta Modern, contempary Mennonite Church that I can't stand going to but they can never get anyone to volenteer for stuff, so my friend called me to beg and I figured...hey its lent anyway!

No sweets, no sugar, no chocolate ... that sort of thing.

We have a Lent study group (meeting every week) and will be reading and discussing the book "The Wounds of Jesus" by Christina Baxter (The ABC's Lent Book 2005).

Greetings,
Tom

I'm giving up sweets, chocolate, cake, biscuits etc. recommitting myself to morning and evening prayer, fasting on a few days (the one's pmcleanj's doing), attending at least midweek service, going through a lent book and i intend to go to a Roman Catholic Church, an Orthodox church, and a pentecostal church at some point during the season. Hopefully i'm not overextending myself too much.

I saw that one and was thinking of buying it, but this is the first lent i'm trying to do more than just give things up and i wanted the discipline of a daily study. It looks a great book though. Let us know what it's like.

Fasting Ash Wednesday (today) until Compline, and Good Friday until the end of Tre-Oro (breaking Good Friday fast is what Hot Crossed Buns are for).
Half-fasts (until noon) on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Abstinance (no meat or alcohol) on Wednesdays and Fridays.
No desserts except on Sunday.
No candles on the dinner table, except on Sunday.
Both Scripture readings and a Psalm at both Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer, instead of just one reading.
No caffeine.
Lenten house-cleaning, focussing on reducing and decluttering.

It is truly wonderful how fasting focusses the mind.

I'm giving up sweets and I'm going to try to read all of the New Testament.

I'm recommitting myself to my diet, giving up a bad habit which I shall remain nameless and making sure I go to church every Sunday. Yeah, I know, but we have a habit of missing and I want to make sure I don't during this season.

I need to find some devotional exercise in addition to this.

I'm giving up chocolate...I would say all sweets but I don't eat any others. Chocolate is my weakness. I started following a bible reading plan at the beginning of the year and sometimes I haven't kept up with reading something each day. So I've had days when I've had to catch up on three-four days of reading....not a good idea as I want to actually take in what I'm reading. So my aim is to stick to that more strictly.
