Hi All
Upon the recommendation of someone here (sorry, I can't remember who), I'm now reading "Thirsting for God in a Land of Shallow Wells" by Matthew Gallatin. Very good! In many ways, the journey experienced by Matthew is much like my own.
Was this book instrumental in the conversion of many of you?

Yes it is a very good book. I first read it after I had converted, if it had been prior I am sure it would have been quite instrumental in my conversion. There are several points in that book that aligned with my doubts and problems with Protestantism, areas where I think that I could have written that very section.

I didn't read it until after I converted either (as it wasn't published before my conversion), but I highly recommend it to evangelicals. I wish it had been around when I was first looking into Orthodoxy.

My wife wants to get a copy of it for her entire family. She says it speaks for her.
Peace.

I too read it well after my conversion, but have since both recommended it and given it to Evangelical friends and aquaintances. It is clear, succinct and powerful.

Matthew goes to our sister parish, about a half hour away. Very wise man, yet the book is written in a way that the rest of us can understand. I love that book, and if the opportunity ever opens up, there are certain family members I'd like to give it to.

I read it before I was even interested in Orthodoxy. A dear friend who converted to Orthodoxy sent it to me so I could better understand this weird church she was attending. It was very helpful, but I have to admit...at first I thot the author might be one of those flaky church hoppers. :) When I was ready to read about Orthodoxy for my own interest (not just to understand my friend), I read it again and it was even more helpful. It's the book I gave my husband and my mom when I started attending an Orthodox church.
