Did Jesus quote from the Septuagint?

Mark 7:6-8 – Jesus quotes Isaiah 29:13 from the Septuagint – “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.”

Yes He did, in fact a number of OT quotations in the NT are Septuagint texts.

Luke used the Septuagint a lot, IIRC.

He had to. The masoretic text was much, much later.

97% of all NT instances of an OT quote are from the LXX.
(Wishing....I....could....cite....sources. Doh!)

Peace.

Acts 7:14 quotes Exodus 1:5, and lists the number in Joseph's house as 75, which is what the Septuagint says. The Masoretic says 70 there.

ugh , how can you compare the LXX to the Non Inspired Version?

Perhaps Colabomb meant WRT the popularity amongst the masses :)

Personally, I think Prodomos is right. I hate the NIV.

So I guess that would make it the KJV of ours!

I don't use it either, in fact, it was a Greek Orthodox Church that convinced me to use the KJV because they said it was the closest to the Greek text.

An excellent resource for exploring the use of the LXX by the authors of the NT...

The executive summary: The LXX was the overwhelmingly preferred OT text for the authors of the NT and was the OT used by the early Church.

I was referring to its wide use, not its quality.
