View Full Version : Odd fasting question.

A few years back, my wife and I sold a particular brand of nutritional products. We eventually got out of the business because we are just not good at sales and couldn't afford them without the wholesale discount. Anyway, since I started my new job, we can afford them again so we have just started back taking them.

How does this relate to fasting?

Well, when I was taking them before, I never ran out of natural energy, I never got sick, I never had any cravings whatsoever and I never got hungry. I would take the nutritional complex with a couple slices of toast and a glass of milk every morning, then late afternoon or early evening, I'd eat a couple slices of bread to stop my stomach from growling. Otherwise, I didn't want anything to eat as my body always felt satisfied nutritionally. Heck, I even had warts shrink and vanish while taking them.

Since this will be our first real fast, we are already looking at what we can and can't have and working out shopping lists, recipes, etc but I don't think it will be a big deal for me as my appetite is already fading and I am mostly eating out of habit now anyway.

I guess my question is, if these supplements make the fast "easy" for me, should I then fast something else to keep the spirit of the fast or what? I'm thinking of fasting video games since they are one of my chief time wasters.

Do they have an animal product in them? If not, count yourself very, very lucky. ;)

Seriously, it's probably best to ask the priest about this. I wouldn't worry about it, personally, but if you feel like it breaks the spirit of the fast, then it is worth talking to your priest about.

re: Ingredients

A good rule of thumb is anything more than 3 (or 12 if you are advanced) items down an ingredient list on a label, or anything that you cannot pronounce, is good for a fast :)

Ideally we should always leave from our meals less than satiated during a fast in addition to abstaining from the usual suspects.

I have also heard that fasting is not just a matter of giving up what you think is best (I think I'll give up brussels sprouts ^_^) but to follow the advice of the Church, tempered by your spiritual father.

As always, ask your father/confessor on things such as this.

What is the name of this wonderful elixer?

The company is Starlight (http://www.starlightonline.com/Products/products.aspx) and they have many great products. I just wish I could afford a full Wellpak every month.

The male version has a nutrient complex geared toward prostate health that has some...cough...pleasant side effects. The female version has a similar nutrient complex that eliminates PMS symptoms and helps regulate a woman's cycle with no hormones. It's all natural too.
