Is there a bible verse that states that there is no sin greater than another?

John seemed to think some sins were greater than others.
John 19:11
Jesus answered, "You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin."

And if there were such a verse, I bet there'd be another one saying the opposite.
Finding verses to support particular statements is not good exegesis.

Is there a bible verse that states that there is no sin greater than another?Scripture actually says exactly the opposite...
For example "all other blasphemies will be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven"...
"If a man has sinned a sin that is not unto death.... for there is a sin that is unto death"...
Just a couple of quick verses that show there are differences...
Additionally, there are actually 2 different words in Greek that we translate into English as 'sin'. One means doing the best you can, but 'missing the mark' because you are human. The other is deliberately transgression against God's Law.

I thought I knew one that said this directly but I cannot find it immediately. It is implied by James: "whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet fail in one point, he is guilty of all". There is no sinner worse than another. This addresses your question: the law doesn't assign different degrees of seriousness to breaking it - however we break it, the judgement against us by the law is complete.

This is an important point. After forgiveness sin has no seriousness and is made completely trivial. But before forgiveness all sin is equally serious. That is why Jesus talks about what will be forgiven, not what is more or less bad in itself.

This is confusing. We know that everyone sins according to the second definition, since sin comes from the heart. As for doing the best we can, if this refers to actions, and we try to do the best actions that we can, then we must have a good heart and therefore be good and not in sin - which is not the case. If it refers to being good, the best we can is precisely nothing, since we cannot alter our nature.

What I think/interpret he is saying, is taking one verse out of context and basing your theology on just that one verse, ignoring everything around it, and any other verses which might clarify this one, is bad theology.

Isn't it also true that even the smallest of sins needs to be forgiven, just much as the worst ones? Sorry to be a bit confused here..... not awake yet!

What I mean is that proof-texting, saying "I believe that X, and here's the verse to prove it" is not good exegesis.
Largely because I can generally find a verse saying the opposite. The Bible just ain't that simple.
