Dear all,

is anyone of you familiar with the English Missal?

I always thought the English Missal was basically the English language form of the Roman (Tridentine) Mass. But now I've read somewhere that there were two concurring parties among English Anglo-Catholics in the 19th century. One of them copied the Tridentine Mass and the other tried to introduce an "English Use" liturgy which was based on the medieval Sarum Rite Mass - the most popular mass liturgy in England before 1547.

Is the English Missal basically Tridentine or Sarum Rite?

Many thanks for your help!
Bonifatius

I think the English Missal is Sarum Rite, the Anglican Missal is Tridentine Rite.

Is it similar to the rites in the BCP? (1662 or 1928 or 1979)
