Wow! That was a Chrisitian? Wow!!!!

I've said this several times about some of the posts that I've read.

But, anyone can claim that they are Christian.

Charlie Sheen (the film star) said that he was born again. A reporter asked him what "born again" meant. Charlie said that he didn't know, but he liked the sound of it!

It seems that anyone can claim that they are a Christian. I've seen a few here. I can't tell if they are real Christians. We hear the things that they say, and sometimes we know that they are dead wrong, but do we say anything?

Maybe, when these "people" get themselves into trouble, because we havent said anything, it's our fault. If they burn out and fall from the lord, then maybe it is our fault. If they get depressed and kill themselves, then maybe it is our fault.

Maybe, we should share with them about what it takes to be a Christian. My minister told me that I could take rebuke. She said that this was a sign that I was a real Christian. Don't be afraid to share your opinion. They won't learn if they don't get feedback.

We get upset when President Clinton makes a show of going to church. What kind of Christian signs a bill that supports partial birth arbortions? His wife (in the matter of Monica L.) seemed to think that we Christians were responsible for "slandering" her husband's reputation. But, despite the fact that she sees us as the "enemy," she too claims to be a "Christian." Maybe 40 years ago, someone should have set them straight. If they had, perhaps, there would be no abortion today.

You don't understand? Here's a little note I made a few years ago. Read it and see if it helps.

on 3 March 1994, the Seven Hundred Club gave these facts: 65% of all Christians don't know the meaning of John 3:16. 50% of all Born Again Christians don't know the meaning of John 3:16. Only 37% of all Christians know what it means to say that Jesus died for our sins.

Wow. Does that boggle your mind?

I am not a drill instructor, but you warriors for Christ are. Every time you read a post, you are the instructor. Let's clean up this area. Make your friends on this forum capable in the basic skills of spiritual combat. There is a war out there. We do lose Christians ever day. They get wasted in many ways. One way is that they struggle and then burn out. Did you ever think that a fruitless struggle burns a man out quicker than a victorious struggle? If these people don't know the basics, then they will certainly be fruitless and easily defeated.

One person on this forum joined in the winter of last year, and now she is no longer a Christian. She has Marilyn Manson on all of her posts. Now, she might have lasted a little longer if someone had said, "Yo, you've got it all wrong." Being polite isn't doing anyone a favor.

Speaking for myself. I am naturally shy, so I understand that challenging someone is hard. It's hard to speak up, and when I do, I feel guilty.

But, it is necessay. There is also a line that I draw, and when somone crosses it, I try to oppose it.

I completely agree. I think it is our jobs as Christians to help each other, to instruct and to correct each other. This is the only way ensure that each of us is fully aware of Christ's commands, teachings, and wishes. There is supposed to be unity among the church--even across denominational lines. Of course, by saying that I am referring to denominations that do not condone beliefs, doctrines, or behaviors that are contrary to Biblical teaching.

It is our job to correct and encourage each other.

I agree with your pastor. A person's reaction to the Word of the Lord is in direct relation to the depth and sincerity of a person's walk with Christ. A person stubborn and closed to rebuke is spitting in the face of God, in my opinion.

Correction is good for us, but do indeed remember to do it with the love, respect, and kindness that Jesus would expect of us.

I agree with this, but I wonder how many Christians actually encourage and try to help our brothers and sisters to stand while NOT condemning them?

Christian encouragement from our brothers and sisters is SO important! I am always in search of a new Christian friend!

If someone uses the term Christian nowadays you'd better find out what they mean by the term and if it's what a Christian really is. There appears to be a lot of ignorance on the part of many as to what a Christian actually is. I've learned that when you ask someone if they're a Christian (like someone you may date or marry) if they're a Christian, it's wise to find out what that means to them.

I agree completely. Thank you for a very thought provoking post, Jonteel.
