I am having difficulty finding information on what this church believes. Can anyone help me? I am also wondering what role women play in this church.

"The first Brethren assembly in England was established at Plymouth in 1831 which is why Brethren are often called Plymouth Brethren.

In the late 1840s the Brethren split into the Open Brethren and the Exclusive Brethren."

I googled this link up; (from which I took the above extract, that clairfies the name)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/christianity/subdivisions/brethren/history.shtml Note: to read this article you need to turn the pages using the page numbers arrows at the Bottom Right of the page, it starts on Page 2 (<<2 of 5>>) so you click on the >> to go to page three. (and not the left column subject heading which pertain to Christianity in general), I am tell you this because it took me a while to work out why I couldn't get to the next page and why it all of a sudden stopped talking about Brethrens. Don't mind me, I am not the most technological of people.

and here are some more links;

Maybe you could also swing by one of their message boards and get information first hand as well. (However Brethrens forbid the use of computers so I don't know how their message boards work)

Goodluck in your quest

Bless Ya

Thank you, Col!
I am surprised to hear that they forbid computers. I went to a Plymouth church last week for a friend’s baptism, and elders were discussing emailing each other things, and I found the church’s website online. Your links will help me research. Thanks again!

Your friends might be "Open Brethren" and maybe it is only the Exclusive Brethren who forbid it. I noticed in the details about Exclusive that they ban just about everything,

Things Exclusive Brethren can't do
The activities below are forbidden for members of the Taylorite Exclusive Brethren because they are too worldly:

watching television
listening to the radio
visiting places of entertainment
reading newspapers
reading fiction
using computers and the internet (they believe that these are being used by 'the man of sin' referred to in the Book of Revelation)
using mobile phones - or any other device that uses radio waves
owning pets (these rules have been relaxed and some members are now said to own pets)
remarrying after divorce, even if they are the innocent party
taking out life assurance
going to university (this exposes young Brethren to morally unhelpful influences)
standing for political office
voting in elections
serving in the armed forces

..........................and the list goes on with further do's and dont's.

It is pretty scary really.

I don't know enough about them to voice an opinon and nor should I as we are not called to judge. I think you are taking the right approach by visiting their churches, as there is nothing like getting the information from the horses mouth.
