...that there are a number of Republican and Democratic icons on this board, and by and large the Republicans and Democrats in STR get along together extremely well?

Sure wish I could get the folks over on News and Current Events to follow our example. This is just another reason why I've become so fond of STR.

Truly, STR is a)a real breath of fresh air on CF; and b) one of CF's better-kept secrets!

and c) a place where there are enough Brits and Canadians that it would be in bad taste to bring "local" ;) political wrangling in here!

I have many friends who are Democrats and I have intelligent conversations with about politics as well as other things. As long as someone doesn't simply assume I'm an idiot because they disagree with me I can get along with anybody.

one thing i have noticed during my time as an anglican
is the general attitude on both sides of any contentious debate, or at least one we should adhere to

it basically boils down to,, he may be an idiot,, but he is our idiot

I'm a moderate, so I agree with the Democrats on many issues and I agree with the Republicans on many issues.

I refuse to equate Bush to Republicans just as I refuse to equate Dean to Democrats; it doesn't work that way.

So yeah; I get along with both, mainly because I agree yet disagree with both.

I think its a reflection on the diversity of acceptable viewpoints in the Anglican Communion. So, when they are debated, it isn't usually in a "political" thread, although they are certainly political issues, but here they can also be church issues - so the political baggage of party and candidate doesn't always interfere.

Very true!
And the thing about the other nationalities--we've people who live in five, if not six countries represented here, don't we?

Never let politics come between you and God.

It's an old Anglican trick to register with 'the other' party which allows you to vote in their primaries, thus getting their weaker candidates to run.
some even display the 'other party' icon'.

UberLutheran,

I believe it has to do with being a Christian. I'm a Christian therefore whether you're Liberal or Conservative I can accept you, just like Jesus accepted all people.
