View Full Version : The History of the Wesleyan Church?

I presently attend a Mennonite Brothern Bible college, but I come from a Wesleyan background.
I have a 7 paper paper due in a few weeks that is all about my denomination background. The problem being, our school has practically no information in their library. Not to mention there are no Wesleyan churches in Western Canada.

So what I am looking for are websites that I could use to find information.
I have been looking like crazy and I havent found much.
www.wesleyan.org (http://www.wesleyan.org) dosent seem to have anything at all.

I know the Wesleyan denomination comes out of the Methodist tradition, and it would be easy for me to write about the Methodist denomination, but that isnt what I grew up in. I went to a Wesleyan Church not a methodist one.

Any ideas?

Some of the questions I have to asnwer (if this will help) are:
Where did this denomination begin?
Who were some of the key leaders?
Why did there seem to be a need for this denomination?
What were the key theological ideas emphasized at the time of origination

etc....

I am not asking for you to answer these for me, rather I am looking for direction as to where I can find the answers.

Thanks

I don't know of much, but somewhere in these pages is a list of the Wesleyan churches, web pages, and when and how they "split".
I'll look for more later.
I do know that the Wesleyan church split off primarily over racial and slavery issues initially. (at least I think I know that;))

Northwestern Nazarene University Library

http://wesley.nnu.edu

(no www, btw)

Also check out interesting "History" or "Historical Background" (forget) section at:
