Distasteful, yes.
Un-Christian, absolutely not.
(These are my personal opinions. The UMC has no stated opinion that I can find.)

I dislike piercings and I think they make someone look worse then if they did not have them but yes, I do not think that they are wrong, it is just that I do not like them at all!

Not my style certainly, but don't see it as a hinderance to a person's faith.

I don't know that the United Methodist's have an official statement on piercings and tatoos, but I don't think we would turn someone away from the church because of piercings or tatoos. I have my ears pierced twice and it doesn't seem to affect my faith or my relationship with God. But for me, that's all the piercings I want. And I am really not that much into tatoos, personally I don't care that much for them, but I certainly wouldn't tell someone they couldn't attend church just because they had one.

I work with a fellow, that in his younger days, got a pretty obnoxious tatoo on his arm. Now, 35 years later he regrets that tatoo and wears clothes that cover it up most of the time. I think that if you get a tatoo, that is certainly a consideration-how are you going to feel about it 10, 15, 20 or more years down the line.

Actually some piercings are biblical! I was preparing to teach a SS lesson on Rebekah this past summer, and it hit me that in some of the jewlery she was given, a nose ring was included! So it was pretty standard during those days to have piercings too. Not that I am going right out to get a nose ring, but it just goes to show that we weren't the first to try these things. :)

Depends on how much they have. I have seen some women that are covered in piercings and tats that look very unattractive. Yet, I remember some of my female friends in AZ that had some extra piercings, and they were very "hawt."

In reality, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

there is no official stance that I am aware of. I have had many church members with pierced ears, and not a few with tatoos

I am a 43 yo male with pierced left ear. I had it done in 1979 well before the current fad. I usually do not wear an ear ring any more, but do so if I am feeling frisky (or young!) :)

In light of the body being the Temple, keep in mind that the Temple was ornately adorned! :)

what do you mean by this post ? --- the temple was ornately adorned? If you a christian is your life to be lived for God and for Gods glory? So i just wonder if you going to get tatoo or ear piercings are you doing it to glorify God? Are you doing it for the Glory of God?
