Lutheran churches follow a liturgical calendar year in which all major festivals fall. In addition, certain saints and events are celebrated as "lesser festivals" or "commemorations," that are commonly observed by individual congregations when they occur on Sundays. The lessons to be read on Sundays are assigned in a trhee-year cycle used by most churches in the United States, the Revised Common Lectionary. Major festivals are as outlined on our Web site; information about the other festivals and commemorations and other aspects of worship planning can be found in resources available from Augsburg Fortress, Publishers, including the book "Festivals and Commemorations" by Philip H. Pfatteicher, and the planning guide "Sundays and Seasons." The dates for festivals in the Easter Cycle vary from year to year, but may be computed with the use of an ecclesiastical calendar.
