What is a Missionary Baptist? How is it different or similar to Baptist/Anabaptist? Is it the same, just an added name such as SBC or GARB?

in this area of the world (southeast kentucky) it is pretty much the missionary baptist capital of the world ^_^ i grew up around missionary baptist (3/4's of my family) and I can say missionary baptist beliefs tend to vary (atleast with the church around here) but there never really vastly different. usually minor differences but i know a lot of Missionary Baptist churches around here that wont let other missionary baptist preachers preach in there church because of the differences. anyhow im pretty sure they are pretty different from SBC. i hope that helps a little. im sure a baptist that knows a lot more than myself will give you a better answer i just saw the thread and figured id respond with my 2 cents.

I'm not too sure of their beliefs, though I THINK they are close to General Baptists. In my area the missionary Baptists churches have mostly African-American congregates.

I thought that as well. I could not find an actual "Missionary Baptist" website or organization, so I wonder if they are all independent? Anyway, thanks to all for the info!

My wife grew up in a Missionary Baptist Church. The only difference that I noticed between them and my church (Southern Baptist) is the amount of time that is spent every month on missionary training and missionary fund raising events. My wife's church was very serious about sending money to people working in the field spreading the love of Jesus where the church I grew up in was more concerned with the community the church was in.

I am a Missionary Baptist. I would have to concurr with JMandrell on this topic. While we are hardly different at all in regards to SBC, we do support much more missions. A very large portion of tithes etc. go to foreign missions, missionaries, and mission trips. We are a large church. Please do not confuse Missionary Baptist with Independent Baptist. While these are very similar, some people get all in a fuss over denominations and associations. It is true that few, emphasis on few, churches in the Missionary Baptist denomination will not allow other preachers from other Missionary Baptist Associations to preach at their church. This is simply political. We BMA's (Baptist Missionary Association) also spend funds on the church, ministry in the youth programs of the church, senior citizens and "shut-ins'' etc. I sincerely hope that this clears some of this up for you. If you have any other questions, I would be obliged to entertain them, but no promises on being able to answer them.
And while this portion of the post is not in the right place, I could use some prayer as I have recently surrendered to the Lord's calling to preach. I will be delivering my first sermon at the tender age of 19. Thanks and GOD BLESS! ! !
