What denomination would a church who follows the teachings/doctrines of Moody Bible Institute and considers themselves conservative and Evangelical be closely related to? I always thought Moody was a Baptist preacher/teacher, but this church deosn't claim any denomination, just that they follow MBI and are Evangelical. I'm just wondering which denomination they would be closely aligned with.

There are many churches within different denominations that claim to be dispensationalist and fundementalist (which I assume the Moody Institute is). I would guess that these churches would be mostly Baptist and many would be Southern Baptist. Although by no means are all Southern Baptist or generally Baptist churches fundementalist; there is great diversity within the denomination.

I would bet their website contains bios on their Board of Directors and faculty, which may include their denominational affiliations.

Their website contains a wealth of info. They are a non-denominational, independent, conservative, evangelical church. I was just wondering if anyone had a guess as to what denomination they would be closest to. Most non-denominational churches can usually be aligned with a denomination in their beliefs and doctrines. I attended a non-denominational church once that stated they were probably closest to Assembly of God in their doctrine, but they were not AG.

The pastor was raised Roman Catholic and was saved in high school when he then decided to attend Moody Bible Institute and became pastor of the church I'm inquiring about a few years following. That was about 20 years ago.

Many years ago, Moody was most closely aligned with what most baptists believe. In fact, many baptist pastors and missionaries were graduates of the school (such as my in-laws). As far as I know they have not moved from their solid, bible-based doctrinal position.

Their current president, Joseph Stowell III, is the son of a former National Representative of the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches (http://www.garbc.org). That is something I have in common with Joe Stowell...my father also served as Nat'l. Rep. for the GARBC following Stowell.
