I noticed in a write up that the New Oxford RSV has few Orthodox contributors, I thought the notes were modern junk theology, is there a verison of the RSV that doesn't contain the junk notes but has the Orthodox Bible (number of books)?

Are you sure youre not talking about the NRSV?

While we're at it

1 John 5:7 (KJV)
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

1 John 5:7 (NKJV)
For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

This verse appears in the RSV as 1 John 5:8:
"There are three witnesses, the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree."

How do Orthodox Churches which use the RSV reconcile this difference?

I'll speculate here:

Removing the interpolation "in heaven" and thinking of it as "on earth" we can say that the three witnesses are literally the Eucharist.

How's that?

The RSV (with "apocrypha") I have contains all the Orthodox books, which separates it from a lot of "apocryphal" collections which have only the Catholic ones.

In IC XC,

This the famous comma johannem and good translations don't include it. That bit is not quoted by the Fathers, nor is it found in old manuscripts. The KJV, however, uses it because it uses Erasmus' Greek text, and Erasmus had promised to include it if it could be found in even one Greek MS, and it was found in a very late Greek MS which had been tampered with.

I believe there were just a handful of Orthodox members of the translation team, and they worked on the deuterocanonicals only. I assume the version which Light & Life sells is the 1977 which includes the full deuterocanon. I believe it did receive some positive remarks from the Ecumenical Patriarch at the time, Demetrios I. The notes I think are fairly helpful (in the sense of filling in historical details from the texts) and stay away from pushing in one particular theological slant. Problems are more likely to be found in the translation itself than in the notes.

OUP also sells a 50 year anniversary (http://www.oup.com/us/catalog/24271/subject/Bibles/?pr=10&pf=0&ss=author.asc&sf=all&sd=asc&view=usa&ci=0195288092) edition which I assume doesn't have notes at all. Right now they've got it on sale.

Is it not in the Church's official copy in Constantinople?
