I'm not quite sure how to word my question and please keep in mind I'm a struggling newbie at this... :) I think I always word things funny so that they're generally misunderstood. :sigh:
Where did the practice of praying to saints originate from, either biblically or historically?

Boy, Andromeda....you like to make us work, don't you?;) Here's an article which might help answer some of your questions: http://www.fatheralexander.org/booklets/english/saints_b_alexander_e.htm
It's kind of long, but feel free to ask more questions if this article doesn't cover everything you want to know.:)

Jews have always relied on intercession, i.e. asking those closer to God to pray for us... this can be seen in the Old Testament with the prophets and so on. Since Christ has destroyed death, and those who have "died" are actually alive, those whom we know were holy are bold before God and we may ask for their prayers.
I guess that's a really simplified version of the origin of the practice. :)
