O man. We are talking major history here. In the old days (when we still had fire in our bellies), anyone could shout 'Fire a volley' and everyone would shout 'Glory'.
Not heard it for a good while, which is a shame

I am not that old. ;) You make it sound like ancient history! But I agree, it is a shame that we don't have that fire in our bellies anymore. What happened to it?

Man, when we used to have fire in our bellies at my summer camp (not Salvation Army), we would yell "Safety!" and everyone would hold their noses ;)
Was this typically an expression used in youth circles?

Go to your User CP and on the left you will see an option 'create avatar'. click it. there you will find out the how. You need 200 blessings to pay for the transaction, which you now have.
To grab a crest, save one of ours to your desktop and then download it.

Anyone got the lyrics (or a link to them) of the Songster piece 'Become aware of Him'?
Is this the one you're after?
Become aware of Him,
for He is ever near,
speak out your prayer to Him,
for He will ever hear,
stretch out your hand to Him,
He's ever by your side;
leave all you've planned to Him,
and let Him guide.

Thanks guys... someone back there posted an Ebay item, so out of curiosity my wife and I had a look through about 60+ Salvation Army items. We won three auctions, all were very old books, and we are winning a fourth auction.
I never knew until now how much a British Pound is worth when converted to the Canadian Dollar!
God bless...

Your days at the most cannot be very long, so use them to the best of your ability for the glory of God and the benefit of your generation.
~ William Booth, (4 October 1910).

~ William Booth, (4 October 1910).
I first read that as "use them to the blest of your ability".
I think that quote lines up quite well with Ephesians 5:15-17 "So be careful how you live, not as fools but as those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days. Don't act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do." (NLT)

Well..Hi there! I was as suprised as British Craig posting before me to find a Salvo thread! Thought this Aussie Soldier would pop in and see what was going on before she popped off to bed.
I've been a Soldier for 2 yrs but didn't come from a Salvo family. My hubby's family are almost all Salvos going Waayyyy back. One of his sisters and her husband are Officers. My husband was raised Salvo but ran away from Christianity as soon as he could leave home. I found God - Thank God! and the Army was the place that I felt at home. I knew that God wanted me to be a Soldier from the very first service I attended but had to wait for a while.
My husband has just finished the Soldiership course but is waiting for things to be right before he becomes Enrolled. Our almost 16 yr old daughter goes to our Corps and our almost 19 yr old son comes on special days.[ He is a Christian but doesn't believe at this stage he needs to be in a 'Church' ]
I love the Army and how God is using the people in it to show our hope in Him through what we do for " the least of these". I have a passion for the Youth of today to know all that God offers them and help the homeless I come across but want to do so much more in that area!
Anyway, enough for now! I was going to bed about an hour ago!
Hope to catch up with you all when time permits. Nite Nite!:)

 hello everybody! I am pretty (all though not entirely) new to this site. I just thought that i would say hi to my fellow Salvationists.
Im 17 and have been a Christian for just over 18months. BUT WHAT AN 18MONTHS! God has really blessed me and helped me through the tough times and spoken to me about my future. I stand firm in the belief that He is leading me to Officership and Pastoral roles within the Salvation Army. I am hoping and praying that my family will understand my calling and when i leave for London when God tells me to they will be happy with what God is doing for me.
So just watch out in a few years you might have me in your church! nah im nice really ;)
I will end with the words of one of my favourite worship songs
"Father God I wonder how I managed to exist without the knowledge of Your parenthood and Your loving care"

I have 2 friends thatare going to the War College. They left today in fact.
A friend of mine just came back from being at the War College for a year - she had a FANTASTIC time interacting with those in the slums and became VERY strong in her faith (not that she wasn't all ready, but it was being used in ways she'd never had an opportunity to before). She now works at Youth Outreach Services (YOS) in the city - a ministry run by the salvos for homeless youth, with a school, trade skills, food, etc...
I'm still undecided about being a Soldier - I guess it comes down to what God says to me. Right now, I feel that apart from alcohol drinking (like once every 6 months), all those Articles of War are what I do as a committed Christian anyway, so I'm still wondering if it is right for me or not...

I have been busy so haven't popped in too much. My hubby is now an enrolled soldier and it is wonderful that he decided to make that commitment to the Army. The only thing is that now I have an extra white shirt and collar to iron for each Sunday! [I loathe ironing! :)]

When I was on the other forum site, I had the World Clock in my favourites so I could keep track of what time it was in my posting buddy's countries/ counties/states. I should resurrect it back to the favourites again. :)I can't remember how far behind Oz the UK is. I once knew when I used to ring some Genealogy contacts in Devon, but now we just use E-mail.
Coffee and toast are ready so I had better get a move on or I will be late to get my daughter to school and me to BSF.

Maybe we should synchronise our watches!Seriously, maybe we could work out our time differences and then from that, work out a time when we could all be on, or as close as possible. Whaddyathink?
Hi there
Wow, you're in Australia - 14 hours difference with Quebec, Canada.... You Aussies are 14 hours ahead of us! That might be a little difficult. :)
More posts are what this forum needs. ;) But then again, Salvationists have a real interesting life outside of Christian Forums.

Hi Guys...
Just finished tidying up the kitchen and loungeroom so that I can get off to bed. We're expecting some really big thunder and lightning plus rain and hail overnight. I woke up at 4.30am this morning to a massive light show in the sky and BIG BOOMS of thunder. I prayed that my hubby who was on his way home from work would be kept safe on the road and delivered home to us....and he was. :)
Hey Abiel, is the AfterSchool club the same as Kids' Club that some churches run here? My kids went to one at their school when they were little and before we were Christians. I thought it was really good that they were learning about God. Pity I never looked at the REALLY BIG picture that I see now, and did something about it back then, hey!
May I enquire as to which part of England you are in?
I correspond with a lovely lady in Liverpool who is not related but shares my maiden name; a family who 'could' be related WAY back, near Ide in Devon, and a 3rd cousin of my husband who I found whilst doing our family tree [ he of Cornish and Devon descent] living in Wales.
Oh well, I am going to have a quick look at the other threads then off to bed. We got a car for our daughter and it needs to have the Auto Electrician have a look at it in the morning.
Like I told her, "You get a car, you get to put your hand in your purse quite a bit." Especially now that our petrol prices are so high! It's criminal!!!
Night all!

I was never a Junior Soldier either...didn't start with the Army until 3+ yrs ago.
Our Corps enrolled 4 Soldiers 2 weeks ago; total of 6 in the last month.
My husband and I and the ones who enrolled in the last lot, all wear uniform, and we all came from 'outside' of the Army. Most of us couldn't wait to get into uniform.
There are a lot of Soldiers within our Corps who are grown up children of Officers, still serving or retired, so brought up in the Army, and it just seems as though it is these ones who now don't wear uniform.
Theory for this is that those who have been in the Army as kids and so were in Junior Soldier uniforms etc, seem to be reluctant to stay in uniform as adults. What do you all think? Interested.

North America: Going to visit one of our Aussie friends at the Salvation Army War College in Vancouver, Canada.
Europe: Stopping off to visit family and friends in England on the way to Africa. We were gonna be landing there anyway, so we figured we might as well spend a few days.
Africa: Going back to Zimbabwe for about 8 weeks to work at the Salvation Army's Masiye Camp again. We went there on a mission trip, and we feel God is calling us to go back. So we are. :)

Well, camp was interesting, experienced a few things I've never encountered before (and hopefully won't again, but that's up to God). Won't go into it here, cos this is the social club :P PM me if you want more details. I will share some cool verses I 'found' though. I say 'found' because I just opened my Bible each time and there they were screaming "READ ME!!!"
Matthew 18:18 I tell you this: Whatever you prohibit on earth is prohibited in heaven, and whatever you allow on earth is allowed in heaven.
John 8:31-36 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, "You are truly my disciples if you keep obeying my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
"But we are descendants of Abraham," they said. "We have never been slaves to anyone on earth. What do you mean, `set free'?"
Jesus replied, "I assure you that everyone who sins is a slave of sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free."

It does if you let it run. But if you want to have a different name you need to stop posting before the Bot turns up and get a new thread started with the new name.

Besides, this way I don't disrupt S_E's sleep, and she has to be up at 5AM to go to work. I might end up having breakfast with her before I get to sleep.

That's rough. I very occasionally get insomnia, most frustrating. My problem at the moment is I can hardly stay awake!

I got about 5 hours. Had S_E do some spine manipulation for me when she woke up, and then I went to bed when she left for work.

Now don't you go putting your back out again at bowling (and keep an eye on my man while you're at it too, please?) :)

I've tried that, lay for up to 4 hours sometimes. It gets rather boring. I find I get more tired if I do something rather than if I just lie in bed. Besides, this way I don't disrupt S_E's sleep, and she has to be up at 5AM to go to work. I might end up having breakfast with her before I get to sleep.
Tonight was one of the rare occassions where I actually would have taken the sleeping pills the doctor prescribed, but I haven't got any at the moment.
Have you tried reading the book of Numbers (Authorised version)?
Works for me

In the cupboard next to the mugs.
I had a few people in there last night so it might prove a good thread.

Forecasting a very bad winter here this year.
Something to do with a lack of activity in the Northern hemisphere's weather systems.
Gonna bring in much more arctic and eastern european weather.:)
Just thought I'd share that;)

Go Aussie! Go Aussie!
I have my FH, Elm0 and Someone_else downstairs watching the game.
Me? I'm up here, far too scared to keep watching (I have a theory that any game I watch ultimately ends up being bad news for the team I go for!!!!) ^_^

We scored 1-0, but because of the first game (in Uruguay, where they won 1-0), we had to go into extra time. 2 bouts of it, with no score.
Penalty shoot out - we won 4-2! :D
We're going to GERMANY! 32 years since our last world cup qualification - you should have heard the screaming (and there's parades everywhere!!!!) :D
