One of those earth shattering revelations has just come my way a few minutes ago.
Here I am, born and bred in the City of Hull, talking daily with half the population of Brisbane, and guess which subject has totally not been talked about at all ? One which is dear to the hearts of residents of both towns.
Any guesses ?

Felling a bit silly today, so heres a silly story...you are not going to like this....in fact I'm leaving the building before you even read it;)
A frog walks into a bank and goes up to the counter. he looks up at the cashier and can see from her name badge that her name is Patricia Whack. The frog says 'Please can I have a loan of £10,000 so that I can go on holiday'.
The cashier understandably looks a little taken aback, so the frog says 'It's OK, my name is Kermit Jagger, my dad is Mick Jagger and he knows the manager well'.
The cashier asks the frog if he can provide any collatoral for the loan, and the frog produces a small porcelain elephant from his pocket and states that he will use it as security for the loan.
By now the cashier is totally nonplussed and goes through to see the manager, relates the frogs story to him, shows him the small elephant and asks what it is and what she should do.
The manager replies....
'It's a niknak, Patty Whack, give the frog a loan, his old mans a Rolling Stone'
Sorry
I won't give up my day job just yet;)
This is the funniest joke I have heard today!:P

Got a meeting with my minister tonight about my ministry for the year (ie, I think it's a 'what is it' discussion)...
Our minister is a firm believer that if you bring a 'lack' you see in the church to his attention, he will see if you're willing to do it. Well, smart me answered the question 'what would you like to see taught this year' with 'how to have a healthy relationship - especially for youth'... needless to say, I'm thinking he's going to ask me to lead it!

I have to come to terms with new port security legislation and the new computer software the boffins promised us hasn't arrived yet because it doesn't work, so I have to cope with ther changes with the pld software, which also doesn't work (well most of the time).

Hull FC actually.
I take it from the way this is going that the chances of us having a Cyber Corps virtual Rugby league team are pretty slim.
I thought all you Aussies were nuts about the game.
elm0
31st January 2005, 09:09 PM
If you think Aussies are nuts about Rugby, what does that make South Africans?
I was born in South Africa, started my schooling there too. I had a few incidents with teachers telling me I had to play in the school teams for cricket and rugby, turned me off both games almost completely. I ended up on the school tennis team, because it was the one sport that I didn't feel pressured to be involved in.

The connection is rugby league. Hull is famous as a rugby town (Hull FC) and so is Brisbane (Bronco's)

Andy Broadley
2nd February 2005, 10:28 PM
Tea - the making of
1) Boil kettle:)
2)Run out and buy another kettle (because you forgot to put water in the first one before boiling it) and try again.
3)Put tea bag in mug.
NB. there is a school of thought that states that you should use a pre warmed tea pot, and one spoonful of loose tea per person plus one for the pot (even though the pot will not be drinking any tea). Once the water is added to the pot, it is then covered with a tea cosy, which looks remarkably like the wooly hat your Granny goes shopping in. After leaving for approx 4 minutes and 51 seconds, the tea is then poured (into a pre heated cup)using a strainer to collect the tea leaves (unless your Great Aunt is visiting and wants to see your fortune in the tea leaves, when the strainer should be discarded. NEVER let Great Aunt read tea leaves if the Vicar is visiting as well.):holy:
There is a second school of thought which states that if you are gonna pratt around like that, you are going to end up missing half of the game/concert/movie etc, besides you get more tea in a mug than you do in a cup.
4)Add boiling water to the mug/tea bag and stir well.
5)Use spoon to squeeze tea bag against inside of mug then remove. You should aim to dribble no more than the equivilent of two spoonfuls of tea onto whichever surface you are working on.
6)Grasping the handle of the spoon between thumb and index finger of your right hand, slowly bring the head of the spoon back with your left index finger, and fire the used tea bag in the general direction of the bin. You will undoubtably fail in this many times, making yourself extremely unpopular in the process, but the sense of satisfaction felt when you finally master this art makes it worthwhile.
7)Add milk/Sugar to your own personal taste, ensuring that equal amounts of each are added to the tea previously spilt on your chosen work surface/table etc. This mixture should then be given a token wipe using the nearest clean tea towel, thus rendering it useless to dry dishes with. If you can achieve this using the last clean tea towel in the drawer, the effect is further hightened.
8)As a final touch, forget to put the milk back in the fridge and leave the lid off the cookie jar (we will discuss at a later date the merits of which cookies are best for dunking).
9)Enjoy your tea. If you work hard at perfecting these techniques, you will soon be in the happy position of never having to make the tea again, because you will be PERMENANTLY BANNED FROM THE KITCHEN!!
More tea vicar?.......;)

Making tea the Woodbridge way.
Put tea bag in small, metal, limescale encrusted pot.
Add about half a cup of hot water.
Squash the tea bag mercilessly against the side of the pot- push harder, you know you can!
Add more hot water.
Pour into tea cup. Milk- one drop or two? sugar- help yourself (this is the Army!)
something from the fridge

I hear Scarborough, England is a much sought place to live. Scarborough, Ontario has one of the highest crime rates in all of Canada.
There are a number of towns and cities named after towns and cities in England and other parts of Europe. It would be interesting to compare them all on a sociological level.
Blessings...

It is a lovely place...but it has it's problems. There are much more desirable sea side towns to live in. Frinton-on-Sea even has a gate to get through! In Southwold, a beach hut will cost the same as a small house in Scarborough.
Andy Broadley
18th February 2005, 02:09 AM
Scarboroughs biggest problem is coastal erosion. A few years ago, a large hotel fell into the sea. It is also famous for it's annual cricket festival, a folk song (Scarborough Fair), and as being one of the few British towns to be shelled by the Germans during WW1.
Havn't been there for a few years, must try and get up there this summer.

*The whole of CF groans and cringes as they watch Andy drag out his soap box, step up onto it, and clear his throat*
I love the game of FOOTBALL. This soccer thing simply does not exist. The beautiful game to which it refers is in fact Association football (as opposed to, say, either code of Rugby Football).
As for, Australian Rules Footabll, that is really a contidiction in terms. It should really be call Australian No Rules Footabll, beacuse there basically don't seem to be any, but they still have about 15 umpires to administer them!!;)
It's played on a round pitch to stop anyone from guessing which way round they are supposed to be playing, by two teams which seem to have about 25 players each. The players wear sleeveless tops, which presumeably is to save the oppostition players the trouble of having to rip them off. It seems to be pretty much a violent free for all, where you can do anything you like to the ball, or the other teams players for that matter. The strange thing is that after a few minutes of this all in stuff, everyone will suddenly stop and stand looking at one guy who has got the ball in his hands. They will then all stand at a resectful distence from him and let him kick the ball into the goal (of which there are six, did I mention that?), before happily going back to world war three again.
Curious game......
Anyway back to football. Yes I love the game, more to watch than to play, due to a variety of factors such as age, weight, and simple lack of skill.
My favourite team is Hull City, who are also supported by Abiels dad (and about 25,000 others, I didn't just mean him and I). In fact Danny Allsopp, one of our strikers, is an Aussie.
Thus endeth todays lesson on the 11th Commandment "thou shalt not degrade football by calling it soccer"
*Andy steps down and wanders off for a cuppa, dragging his soap box behind him*

Hmmph. I reject your teaching of man-made rules as though they were God's commands... :P SOCCER SOCCER SOCCER. Hehe.
Yeah, I'm majorly uncoordinated too. I avoid team sports for fear of injuring my own team mates (apparently this is a bad thing, even in AFL).
Andy Broadley
28th February 2005, 10:43 PM
Well, OK, leavindg aside the Blasphemy, the fact still remains that the game is called football,
The logic is simple, a player uses his FOOT to control and play the BALL, giving us FOOTBALL.;)
Coming fvrom the country that invented the game, I speak with a little authority on the matter.:D :D
I assure you that there is no such game as soccer, never has been, and never will be. My mission in life (after winning the world for Christ of course) is to educate the world into giving the beautiful game it's correct name.

Or is this alternate terminology not acceptable because it was coined AFTER the time of William Booth? :D
Andy Broadley
1st March 2005, 12:02 AM
It's not accepable because it came from a spoilt brat at Oxford with too much money and not enough sense.
How on earth can you expect a class of people who play polo and croquet to understand anything about football?
Bear in mind this is the same class and generation of people who considered that it would be a jolly good idea to get rid of the criminal classes by packing them off to a piece of real estate Britain owned on the other side of the world.
The game is played using a ball, it is played using the feet. It is FOOTBALL.

Doug is a very sweet slightly-older-than-me father of one of the boys who plays. He and I usually end up discussing various medical topics that can end up slightly heated (but friendly). When I was just B's friend (but I was attending to see him and Elm0 play and have a picnic with Elm0's wife and some other friends) he originally mistook me as B's wife, and then, when he realised we were just flatmates at that point, he continually ribbed B to 'get his act together' and 'catch' me...

He he. Reminds me of something. The business world is well into fast-tracking these days as the latest new idea. Well, did you know that General Booth invented it ?
Frederick Tucker was an official in the Indian Civil Service. He sent a donation to the Salvation Army in England and along with his receipt, got a copy of the War Cry. He took four months leave, travelled to England, met Booth, decided he wanted to join the Army and take the Army's work to India. Booth agreed, provide he resigned his position with the civil service, and Tucker returned to India after his few short months with the rank of Major. Possibly the first recorded instance of fast tracking? Somewhere along the line he married Emma Booth and ended up as Commissioner Frederick Booth Tucker.

Want an annoying, pointless bit of trivia?:o No? Well hard luck, you're getting it anyway:D :D :D
It has been revealed unto me that both the Army's female Generals had the same initials. See. Pointless & annoying;)
Just noticed something else as well. The link that ITF found lists General Booth (Snr) as becoming General in 1860. It was my understanding that the Christian Mission came into being on the Mile End Road in 1865. Also from 1865 to 1878, Booth was 'Superintendant', and did not take the rank of General until we became the Salvation Army in 1878.
I'll put the kettle on. Tea anyone?:)

Chocolate Bar Blessing
http://ship-of-fools.com/Gadgets/Food/Pics/BibleChocs.gif
Now you can truly devour the Word! Simply break open a Heaven's Best chocolate bar, each one 'gracefully carved in the shape of four open Bibles,' and discover for yourself that the scriptures are 'sweeter than honey to my mouth', in the words of Psalm 119 (though it's unlikely that the psalm-writer ever had quite this in mind).
Each bar 'comes with a beautiful discovery card filled with a Bible verse to use as a bookmark or keepsake.' 24 bars of Heaven's Best, with display, cost a hip-clinging $24.00. Taste and see that the Lord is good!

Nagwalk - hi and welcome to the blood and fire drop in (where capital letters are strictly optional). Tell us a bit more about yourself. Do you play in the band? If so drop by the band room and we'll sort you out;)
You'll like it here in the Cyber Corps. We have soldiers fronm all round the world (including Canada).
Abiel who is our CO, is also our mod on here (along with Bradford). I'm the bandmaster, we have a colour sergeant, a YPSM, an IT/research sergeant, and that's to mention but a few.
We cover a wide range of subjects on the threads, some of them serious, many not. We uplift one another when needed, laugh together, pray together, and occasionally cry together.
Once in a while Abiel has to put her mod hat on, but rarely, we are generally a well behaved bunch.
Anyway, that's Cyber Corps. I do hope you will join us, and swell the ranks from Canada.
