I do I do!! My Zayde loved celebrating Channukah with me. I remember the smell of latka's and tiny little candles from Yisrael. I still have the Mennorah's from then. Those memories are like gold to me. South bronx, Yiddish speaking relatives, ......ahhhhh We would sit and play the piano and sin songs......play dreidle games. What I would give to be able to be in my Zayde's arms again. ....ah..to shmooz with that generation again..... They're all gone you know. ah that makes me ver clempt.... But they remain in my heart. :)

Most definately, I dont know about other traditions but I was read stories about
the origins of Hanukkah, And some hellenic period stuff as well. while eating my favourite food. My Grandmother told most of it. It was in the UK and rather cold outside, but it was wonderful. The thing I remember about Christmas is the strange things that appear on television. I think in the 1970s they were extravagent. But for me that sense of warmth most people I assume associate with Christmas I associate with Hanukkah.

When I was a child, not being all into comparative religion etc. I had this wierd belief that the shekinah dwelled with us first and the Christians later on.

Dont ask, that was me as a child believing that :)

Shalom
