I'm trying to send my two little daughters, who live with their father, a menorah and some scripture readings for this coming holiday, so that they can celebrate this away from us.
I looked online and the sheer volume of info out there is baffling and I need some help!! Can anyone point me to a resource that is not overflowing with information?? I just need some scripture references for them to read, and maybe a simple blessing for the candle lighting. They are 11 and 13, and will be doing this on their own, without their father's support (though he is allowing it.)
Thanks.
Any help!

That last site is full of links! Makes ones head spin, but I did notice furthur down if you can make it past all those links it says this:
Generally speaking we consider Hanukkah a Jewish holiday. But we need to remember that Jesus was Jewish and He did partake of the feasts and fasts mentioned in the Old Testament. I know that it is not necessary to take part in them to be a Christian and of course we are not bound by the Law of the Old Testament because Jesus fulfilled that through his death and resurrection. Some will disagree with me but I do feel that it is important for use to learn about the Temple and the Feasts. We can learn so much from an extensive Bible study about them. You might consider doing a word study on "lampstand" and "candlestick". You can find the word "candlestick" 39 times (http://bible.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?new=1&word=candlestick§ion=wb&version=kjv) but not menorah. As I have mentioned on other pages there are 7 major feasts in the Jewish faith. They have prophetic meaning and 4 of the 7 have been literally fulfilled in Jesus.
Apparently this woman never consulted a concordance , found 31 times in the 'OT". ;)

What does the Bible say about Chanukah?http://www.annieshomepage.com/world.gif
Hanukkah is not mentioned in the Old Testament by name but is mentioned in the New
Testament. The word "Chanukah" is not in the Bible by name but we do find
"The Feast of Dedication" which is the same thing.
Found 7 times in the 'Old Testament'

We bought the book that that info comes from as it is promoted as homeschool material. It is all over the map.

:) I thought that site was Messianic as I was reading down through it, until I got to what I posted above. Then I was like, Huh? I just wanted to alert anyone who might have gone there and not gotten to that part. It looked to me as if she copied and pasted stuff from everywhere, there was much duplication on facts, but mucho links!
What I can't understand is why all the stuff, why did she take the time to gather all the info on Hanukkah, that was a lot of work. Not Jewish, not messianic, Odd..
No fault on your end Henaynei, that site was full of helpful links.

My apologies if I gave the wrong impression. The book I was referencing is A Family Guide to Biblical Holidays. There was alot of good effort put into the book - we just went thru it with a fine tooth comb if you will. The intended audience appears to be hebraic roots.

:) No fault on your end Henaynei, that site was full of helpful links. NP Zayit ;) The best metaphor for the infor on the WWW is a poorly tended rose garden - lost of thorns and dead wood - with a few amazing roses scattered about!!

I used to actually have that book, but it gost lost among a number of other things in my last move. boo-hoo! It was from a christian perspective, but a lot of the facts were in order.
I'm also looking for an electronic menorah, but that will come.
Thanks for all the help! Much appreciated!
