You know in the art of witnessessing to those committed to their theology, it takes prayer and letting go of self. It is not by might, not by power but by His Spirit that things will happen.

As I have pondered this one advisement from Yeshua....

Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

We are to be as knowledgable as possible, yet harmless. Planting seeds, not getting caught up in arguments, but presenting the truth and letting the Holy Spirit do the convicting. The contradiction of characters between the serpent and the dove is great and the reconciliation of the two characters that we are to portray as the sheep in the midst of wolves is hard.

If you have ever seen doves, they are there, roosting, spitting seeds and feeding. If you have seen sheep when wolves come, they scatter and gather together, scatter and gather together while staying out of the wolf's reach.

Thinking about the serpent in the garden of Eden, he was very wise, subtil in His lies, which leads me to think that we also must be wise in the truth and also that part that strays from the truth. They say that they truth shall set you free and you shall be free indeed. If we rejoice in all truth, no matter where it comes from, gathering all the gems of truth and learning its place in the setting of prophecy, its place in our lives, and it place in our hearts, then we are being transformed into the smart, wise, gentle, loving, images of Yeshua.

It use to be for me personally that I belonged to a congregation that stated that if the church did not sanction it, it was dangerous for us to study it on our own without church interpretation. I thought to myself at that time, when did I become so stupid that I could not think for myself, or when did God quit speaking to me, and stopped being my conscience. I left, and have been studying on my own, praying for God's guidance in the knowledge that I need to handle what lies ahead in my life. I wanted to be wise and yet retain the harmlessness.

Notice that neither the sheep or the doves are territorial, as in defending their turf. THey will return to their place, after the predator has left, but they watch and wait from a safe distance.

Have any of you insights into what Yeshua is wanting us to understand by that verse....how do you see yourself as the Lord's advocate and are you wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove?

Dear dear visionary, ........from what I read in your posts you are just that. I have learned so much from you and your gentle spirited approach to other's in these forums.

You are inspirational and a great example of Yahshua's words in:
Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Have any of you insights into what Yeshua is wanting us to understand by that verse....how do you see yourself as the Lord's advocate and are you wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove?

I really feel that Yahweh knows that I am not ready to be an advocate of His as I am still learning to be as wise as a serpant and harmless as a dove.

When I am in "midst of wolves" (so-to-speak) I am not readily equiped to speak Yahweh's truth as I am not spiritually mature enough at this point.

However, I do endeavour to reach this point through the guidance of His Holy Spirit and the will of my Heavenly Father in His good time.

As for "seed planting", I firmly believe in this suble form of communicating Yahweh's truths....but it requires the utmost patience and humility, a quailty well worth stiving for.

And the "EGO" has no place in the heart of one Yahwehs children, but I see a lot of that going on in many christian circles.

Shalom from Bon

It takes much prayer to personna that verse....I am humbled that you think this, for we do not see ourselves as others see us, but as what we have yet to go in our spiritual journey. I must confess that I am unworthy for such a distinction as the mods can attest too, for I have been intolerant of blatant arrogance on the part of wicked self-righteousness. My character flaw that needs more work on so that my "wise as a serpent" and "harmless as a dove" is better able to handle the situation.

It is both the knowledge and the handling of that knowledge in the spirit of Yeshua that makes it work. I find it is both a prayerful hand holding with Yeshua for strength, courage and wisdom and it is a striving and wrestling time for me to achieve.

PG - Knowing that you are working in the midst of wolves, how is the "wise as serpents and harmless as doves" working for you.

Muffler Dragon - I have seen the spiritual battles that you do in the general theology forum...have you gained some insights on how being a sheep among the wolves is an advantage?

Bon - I know the home front struggle definitely takes the "harmless as a dove" approach to win the heart of your love? How is the "cooing" working? Is he more receptive?

Henny - In the capacity of the "mod" have you found that "harmless as a dove" a good position to present the rules or do you find yourself needing to be more "wise as a serpent" to rangle around the tough issues that are reported to you?

Pray4Isrel - In your work as a missionary out in some foreign country, do you wish that you were more "wise" knowing the culture better, knowing the religious flavor of the area better, understanding the customs more, thus better able to comprehend where they are coming from, so that you can help them draw closer to Yeshua?

Luke 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
