This question primarily arose as a result of another post on this forun, concerning hatred or other anti-social behavior towards Baptists or Christians.
The question is this. Does anyone know if Catholics really are taught (or do they believe) that Jesus did not physically arise from the tomb?

I was raised Catholic and I taught Catechism for a short time too...
I was taught (and did teach) that Jesus was died, was burried, and on the third day he rose again (yes physically) in fulfillment of the scriptures.
I have been in many Catholic churches (across the 3 states I lived in) and never heard otherwise. Also if you visit www.vatican.va (http://www.vatican.va), you will see there they it is also the stance of the church.

I was a Catholic, and as a Catholic I recited the Nicene Creed every Sunday at Mass. I believed then, as I do now, that Jesus physically arose from the tomb.

I never heard that the RCC does not believe Christ physically rose.
I know that the Jehova Witnesses DO NOT believe that Christ physically rose.

Yes, JW's believe that His spirit arose, not His body. They also have some theological ideas that deny the deity of Christ. That is why they are not considered Christian by most Christians. This is a Gnostic idea.

Speaking as a person who went through 6 grades of sunday school in a catholic church I can say that not only was this NEVER taught, virtually all catholics would be shocked by the idea that someone would think they belived he didn't arise from the tomb. It is essential to the catholic faith that he arose. Around easter, we would all go everywhere saying "Christos Voskress" which means Christ is risen!"

I wonder how people who don't hold the physical resurrection can explain salvation?

Beats the heck out of me. The salvation story doesn't make any sense if Christ stayed dead.
