Ok, so there is many denominations right? I'm just curious as to why others chose to classify themselves in the 'Christian' category.....
My reason...I have done a few churches through my life and am currently in a Baptist one, and I believe the Bible and in Jesus..period. I do realize why we have denominations...for opinion differences and traditions, but that not what I am asking.

I'm not really sure what you are asking then. I personally was raised a Catholic and left that denomination because there were many things they teach which are extra biblical that I don't agree with. Now I'm not saying that the Catholic church is bad. I have many friends who I am positive know Jesus as their personal saviour and are Catholic. I now belong to a non denominational bible based church affiliated with the American Missionary Fellowship.

:angel:Some don't look at their identity being defined by an organization or its group specific dogma . They would rather identify themselves with the Lord alone . I believe Jesus ... period .

I choose to identify myself with the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE - Jesus! I definately attend a bible believing church and one that practices it too. That is what matters.

originally i was brought up in the methodist church but my parents left it because it wasnt offering enough. Now we attend Mt. Zion a non-denominational church that offers what we need, and God is doing miraculous things these days. why im non-denominational is easy for me. our church teaches what is written in the bible. if it isnt written, it isnt taught. I like that. that is my opinion anyways.

If youre speakign of faith icons, I change mine between christian, pentecostal, and non-denom just for kicks and grins. I like the pentecostal icon because I think that it is pretty and I go to and A/G church.
If you're talking about in general, I call myself a christian because that is what I am. I'm not Baptist, or Oneness, or Assemblies of God, I'm just a christian. I don't like putting a label on my faith.
It is really faith if you have to put it into a denominational box?

I choose the Christian icon because that's what the Bible calls me.
Ac 11:26 (http://bible1.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?word=ac+11:26&version=kjv&st=1&sd=1&new=1&showtools=1) - Show Context (http://bible1.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?passage=ac+11:26&version=kjv&context=1&showtools=1) And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

I'm a little confused as to what your question is.Just wanting to see why others chose the Christian icon. Not saying that I don't know why for myself, just curious about others.....

I consider myself to be simply a Christian. Not non-denominational, not Baptist, not Methodist, etc etc... I don't affiliate myself with any denomination and I don't go to church so I guess the simple Christian icon is best for me. My beliefs are mostly Protestant but I do agree with Catholics on some things as well. I may decide to switch to an actual denomination in the future and go to some church but for now, I just call myself a simple Christian. :)

I do not think that Jesus started any "denomination" other than the Body of Christ. That is what I am a part of. I have been to Baptist, Methodist, and Nazarene (current) churches. As long as they are Biblically based, that is all that matters.

i chose the Christian sign because i believe in relationship, not religion. i go to a nondenominational church b/c they dont label me. even if i werent going nondenom, i would still just be a Christian, a child of God and believer in Christ. that is all.

i picked the christian icon, because that's what i am.
my faith got started in the non-denominational/pentecostal church. then around the same time, i switched to The First Friends Church, and then to a Reformed Congregationalist. then eventually went back to the Non-Denominational/pentecostal church. then went to The Missionary Church. then back to a non-denominational/pentecostal church. now, even though i currently have driving issues right now, i try to attend a ministry about an hour north of me that the pastor got his pastorate through the Missionary Church, but it seems to be more of a trans-denominational ministry, meaning people from all kinds of backgrounds. that's how i like it. but this sunday i am probably going to check out the Methodist Church.
in the end, no matter what denomination i chose to worship God at, I will always be strictly a Christian. these theologians may have great points and ideas, and great quotes, but in the end, who is that saves us? It is Jesus Christ alone. i will never be non-denominational, pentecostal, baptist, methodist, nazerene, catholic, quaker, anglican or whatever else is out there. i am hoping to find one denomination to where i feel that i can put my conscience with the most, and worship with believers like me, and grow and progress in my faith in Christ and be with a group of believers who strive for the same goal.

Pretty much the same reason here as well. I like Kingzjewel's statement "...believe in relationship, not religion". That's mine too. I don't really care what religion ppl are or what denomination, just if you follow Jesus Christ the best you know how. I also believe that no matter what denomination we choose to be, we are all a part of the bigger denomination...Jesus...and he called us Christian.

I chose the christian icon because when I had the Oneness icon I couldn't post just anywhere and that bothered me. I don't think that just because I had the oneness icon I should be "shushed". Besides, all christian means is "Christ Beliefe". That you believe in Christ.

Denomination does not separate you and the rest from the christian world, we are all Christ believers and it make no different where you comes from.

Happygal,
I hear You on that...For me being a believer is fine and well...And yet for a # of years I was of one set of doctrinal holdings and then Accepted Christ and embraced a denominational identity and now I being a Believer am focusing on grasping at what I believe and what is allowed to fall away without being too much of the right things falling away.
This is my reason for my previous statement...Not that You are Wrong and I am Right...just the reason I posted the way I did...that's all:wave:
Sincerely,
Templedweller:)

Hello,
I didn't choose to belong to 'non-denominational' churches. Christ chose it for me!

I belong to no denomination, and I am intellectually opposed to the very existence of denominations (though I'm not hostile towards members of denominations and I realize that they're not going away anytime soon). I feel as comfortable worshipping in a Catholic church as I do in a Pentecostal as I do in an Orthodox. I agree with all of them on some things and disagree with them on others.

I chose the Christian icon because I have found that choosing a specific denomination puts you in a category before you even say anything. I am a Christian and I do not want to be judged before I speak by the denomination I would put up there. Actually, I am a Christian first.:)

I'm agreeing with most others here...I didn't want to be labelled because I am what I state I am..."A christian"
I was brought up in a pentecostal church, went to a baptist church for a while, and i'm pretty certain that my current church is non denominational as we have a wide range of denominations.

I don't even know what faith icon I chose. I don't have it showing in my posts because I don't think it is important what everyone is. Usually their posts give you a better idea to that than their icon.
