Hey, I want to know how to read the Bible. What I have been doing is reading from Genisis, but its real confusing. Should I start with a new chapter??? If so, which one(s)??

I would recommend starting in John. It will lay the groundwork for understanding who and what Jesus is. Beginning in Genesis and just reading straight through isn't a bad idea, but, it could play havoc on your ability or willingness to stick with it. Not that there is anything bad in the OT, but it can be hard reading.
You could then go on to Luke and follow on to Acts, since Acts is essentially volume 2 of Luke. Then, I would say continue on from Acts. Getting into the Epistles (Romans - Jude) will get the every day how to's of living the life we as Christians are called to live.
I would also reommend including one chapter from Psalms and maybe even one from Proverbs each day.
Once you get the New Testament read, you could go back to the Old Testament. With the NT fresh in your mind, you will see Christ throughout the Old. This has helped me when reading it.
Hope this helps. Getting into the Word is important. We are in a relationship with God through Christ and prayer and the Bible is our communication within that relationship.
God bless.

i have this same problem. what you could do is get a devotional book but, i dont like those. you might. what I do is, if im going through a hard time, look up verses about that. another thing that i do is just open my Bible and start reading. that usually doesn't confuse me. another thing is go to your favorite verses or chapters and read the stuff around that so u have better understanding of it.
hope it goes well,
your sis in Christ,

You should start in John then the first 3 Gosples, then the rest of the NT, then the Old Testament.
me... Scripture by scripture, verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book... with some skipping around too.
I didn't start in John but it would have helped a lot. I did read the NT first though.

yeah, genesis is good, but the new testament is about you.
ask God to help you read it, the bible isnt just like any other book, it comes to life under the leading of the Lord. hell take you diffrent places and give you what you need each day, its not a take home self study.
i think we should pray and worship before we read it, becuase we are then in a Godly mindset and our hearts are more open to hearing from the Lord, and God will be able to speak to you more from the word.

I read the New Testament first, and now I am going back and reading the Old Testament. If I get a little bored, I still read the Old Testament, but also read the New once more.

I recommend the Pauline epistles especially Ephesians :)
Just read this:
Ephesians 3
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, :)

I am a New Christian, and My pastor reccomended to me that I start with John and read it 4 or 5 times and really take time to absorb what I am reading and then begin at the beginning of the New Testament doing the same thing with each book, really take time to get a grasp on what the message is saying to you. Also he instructed me to pray before reading any of the bible that God will clear my mind and open my heart and mind to his word that I may get what I need from it
Hasnt failed me yet.

I read the bible cover to cover using a one year bible. It had a little of the new testament and a little of the old, plus a psalm or two. It had it spelled out what you should read each day. I took some time at night to really read it and if I felt like I needed more time I took it. The one year bible is suppose to take 365 days, it took me more like 400.

At the moment Iīm reading Romans-very good. But if you havenīt read that much before youīd better start at the beginning of the new testament in order to get to know what the letters are about. I read parts of Matthew and Mark before I actually started reding Romans and it was better to do it this way (Iīve tried it the other way round but it didnīt work).
The old testament is very hard to read so I personally prefer the new.

I agree that reading the New Testament first, especially John, then the other 3 gospels is a great place to start. I would focus mostly on John in the beginning. Reading the Bible from cover to cover is hard if you're new to studying it. Back to the Bible (search for on Google since I can't post a link here) has some good daily bible reading plans, if you decide to follow a plan. Also on the devotions link here )see menu at top of CF home page for "Devotions" link) there is a daily devotional called "our daily bread" which guides you in reading the bible.
