Greetings, brothers in Christ

Today I am here to ask for encourage and advice on some things that have come up. I believe the word of God. I believe the word is God. I believe the word is living and active, sharper than any double edged sword. I believe that we are created to be the head and not the tail. Thanks be to God the father.

Today, I am faced with the fact that as a young man it will never be easy to restrain myself from youthful and lustful sins. I am fighting the battle. I am praying in the spirit and constantly setting my mind on Godly things. However, I have been fighting this lust battle since I was 8 when I was exposed to pornography. Since then I have become captive of this sin. I am believing for deliverance but it seems like a constant loop. How can I break out of this free once and for all? Because my heart is in anguish everytime I watch it and my soul is not at peace with the Lord because of this. I am sick and tired of sinning the same sin and I would like to see the end of it. Thankyou

How are you there,

its hard when we want to do right by God and yet we cant stop sinning when we want to. maybe a few tips is just to throw out any magazines you have. get them out of site out of mind. move your computer to an area of the house where you wont be alone and even look at installing some porn blocker software. Then just pray to the Lord to help you. thats about all i cant think off. I will pray for you my friend. Good luck

From experience: you can either deal with it through obedience now through the Spirit.....or you can learn from the consequences of the continued sin, after the fact, through severe pain and agony, after you've been disciplined by God. (This is assuming you are born of God and are His child.) Believe me, the former is a much better course but if you are His Son, you WILL learn to overcome bodily lusts one way or the other. If you just decide you just cannot WANT to do His will, (Phillipians 2:13?) then He will place you in such a position that doing His will becomes the less painful of two or more options.

Start by immediately getting rid of any stumbling block or occasion for sin in your immediate sphere. That's a step of obedience. Believe God for His power....the power that comes through YOUR DEATH on the cross. He will not fail.

Ecclesiastes 11:9
9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth,
And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth;
Walk in the ways of your heart,
And in the sight of your eyes;
But know that for all these
God will bring you into judgment.
10Therefore remove sorrow from your heart,
And put away evil from your flesh,
For childhood and youth are vanity.

Philippians 2:12
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Dose of Reality,

I have heard comments that Setting the Captives Free (http://www.settingcaptivesfree.com/home/) has helped some people break free of this problem. You might want to look into it. It is Christ based. You can "preview" the free course of the Way to Purity and see if it is something that you are interested in. I hope that helps.

I would suggest speaking with your minister from your church. Confession is the only way sometimes, and the prayers of a righteous man are a very powerful thing.

Dear Dose:

Are you involved in very many extra-curriculars? Do you have anything that can occupy your time or that you can put your energy into?

I find that sometimes people simply need to get in the habit of doing things to take their minds off of other issues (particularly problems).

By the way, if you would like to talk about this in a more private manner, please feel free to PM me about it. I would say that I had a strong affinity to that which you battle, but I was able to get over it after I left highschool. Therefore, I might be able to help just by listening, understanding, and guiding.

Shalom,

m.d.
