But this is all so new to me. I don't even know where to start. I'd feel much better if I could go with someone else. So, if any of you live in WA state, please PM me. I'd rather not tell you were I am located right off.

I fell uncomfortable going alone. And since my family is Baptist and very happy with their current church, they won't go.

In fact, they might even not approve of me going. But I'm gonna try this anyway.

If none of you live in my area, I'll just have to go alone.

if you have to go alone, its not so bad

liturgical churches are easy, just do what everyone else does. you also get a pre-printed program of what to do and what is being said

you are going to love it,

i am a convert to ecusa,, i was raised evangelical -- at charles swindoll's church, so my background is somewhat similar to yours

let us know what happens,, good luck (will pray)

You might want to bring a few pieces of paper, to use as bookmarks ;)

CEV, I just wanted to wish you the best of luck - I know how intimidating it can be, to church-shop, alone! (I'm one of the few Anglicans in my family).

I also wanted to give you this link - http://www.ecdplus.org/parish/ It's a parish finder from the website of the ECUSA - you put in your city/state or zipcode and it pulls up the nearest Episcopal churches. Many of the churches have websites, which you can browse and perhaps find a church that is a good fit with you.

I'd like to echo what Julian said - just make sure you don't sit in the front row and follow what everyone else does, and you'll be fine! And even if you don't follow what everyone else does exactly, that's okay, too! If you have any questions about the actual service, please feel free to ask away!

Is the Episcopal Church the only kind of Anglican church, or are there other kinds of Anglican churches?

Other countries have episcopal churches but often have different names. ECUSA is the main one in the US.

Oh, and I'm not sure how prevelent it is in your baptist church but there isn't a need to bring a Bible to church..

Not merely the "main one," the Episcopal Church in the USA is the ONLY official branch of the Anglican Communion in the US...for now anyway. ;)

There are other church bodies of one degree or another of the Anglican flavor, of course--most of them resulting from one split or another.

best,
Brian

Well there are a few Old Catholics I think but the vast majoirty of anglicans in the US are ECUSA I agree.

Certainly not the main one, though at times it might like to think it is. There are numerous other congregations in the communion who are far larger than the ECUSA.

Hi,

do you know this link?

http://www.anglicansonline.org/basics/expect.html

I think this is quite helpful for people who have not been to an Anglican church before.

But don't worry: All Anglican churches I have been to are very relaxed and easy. You'll not be forced to do anything you don't like. And you are generally free to do what you feel appropriate. In my church some people kneel for the confession or during the Eucharistic liturgy, others don't, some cross themselves, others don't, some bow at times, some don't - and we don't mind. So just go and see how you like it....

Greetings
Tom
