Recently I have been thinking about the 2 scriptures in the gospels.
When Jesus sent out the disciples once he sent them out teeling them not to take any money, or coat or sword etc.
The next time he said to take them!
Any ideas as to why?

Maybe Jesus knew that the situations would be different and He wanted to test them in some way or something. I really don't know why. I am just throwing out my own uneducated guess.
What particular scriptures are you talking about?

I have heard that the 1st time Jesus sent the disciples out only to their own (the jews)
The 2nd time was to the non jews
Has anyone else heard this? what do you think?

Taking the sword is in Luke somewhere - I've been trying to find it again since a Bible study 3 years ago. The Episcopal priest heading the study said it was like Jesus - came first time as a lamb and will come next time with a sword! Hope that helps.

The 1st time Jesus was taking care of them. The 2nd time Jesus warns them that there will be much danger when He is to be numbered with the transgressors.
And he said to them, "When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?" They said, "No, nothing." And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one, For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in me, "And He was numbered with transgessors'; for that which refers to Me has it's fulfillment." They said, "Lord look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough." (Lk.22:35-38)

I never contemplate stuff like that in the bible. It isn't a bad thing or anything, but the thought has never occured to me.
