You know how CF moved to a completely new server setup last weekend? How I spent last weekend upgrading and moving all our data to our current server network? Well, it was all for nothing, and I wasted thousands doing it. :(

This is the current problem. Our current host is going to charge us over $10,000 this month because of our bandwidth usage. This is after I spent a whole weekend migrating to their service.
So I have to move to a new host pronto. Or we rack up more and more bandwidth costs.

I'm negotiating with our previous host a private rack with completely new servers, a private network and a public network, and also getting a good deal with bandwidth. We will drop our webservers from 5 to 4, to cut costs - I was overly ambitious with our upgrades, and we are about to break the bank with our current hosts. :)

If negotations go well, we will be migrating servers again this weekend. My deepest apologies for moving CF servers again - I pray that this is our last move. We cannot possibly stay with the current provider as they are charging us too much for the bandwidth.

The good news is that on this new private rack we will have our very own 100 Mbps internal network which should remove any lag between the webservers and database servers.

I'll keep people posted in this thread.

Okay, an update:

I've finally got a good deal with our current network providers so we are staying. We are upgrading all our servers, increasing the number of processors (16 x Pentium 4s), adding a 2nd 100Mbps network to handle the bandwidth and prevent network saturation. This should really fix our current network clogging problems and bandwidth issues.

The changeover to this new setup will happen in 12-24 hours - during this time, CF will be offline - I will set it up so that the java IRC chat room shows up and people can meet to chat, and I can go there to update members. :)

 Thank you Erwin for all that you do to keep CF running. :)

Someone asked me why we need a private network. This is because with a separate network for intranet, it means that intranet data does not compete with internet data. So things are much faster.

I'm still in the negotiation stage. Please pray if you're a Christian that we get a good deal. :) Again, sorry for all the downtime and network outages.

Sure. ;) You know I'm always praying that you would come over to the "other side" once again, LC.

Unfortunately, as we are literally going to change hardware, there WILL be some downtime. I will hope to minimize this with some clever DNS switching... ;)

Another thing:

Because I am busy with all these hardware and network issues, I will not be able to answer any of the forum support questions posted due to lack of time. Once this whole server issue is fixed, I will switch back to normal and start paying attention to members' questions again. My apologies.

Erwin, wow . .. all I can say is wow . . . I can tell you I have been so appreciative of the speed the last couple of days . . it is so nice . . .everything is working more smoothly . .

I am really sorry this happened, and that you had to go through all that work and cost. I can't do much else to help right now other than pray, but I will be praying for you and CF that you get a really good deal and great service . . .

God bless you Erwin. You, and what you are doing, are much appreciated!

:)

May the Lord bless you Erwin for all the work , time & effort you put into this.

And if I ever win the Lotto, you'll be getting a big donation.

Now I just need to play the Lotto.

About 6-12 hours? Could be less, could be more.

I'm still waiting for the actual hardware to be configured so I can start transferring data across.

The actual private LAN still needs to be setup. Taking longer than I expected - I was hoping to have started by now.
