Only Two Religions

There are and always have been only two religions in the world. The most popular religion is where humans endeavour to make themselves good enough for God to accept. It preaches: "Be holy and God will love you."

But the true religion of the gospel proclaims: "this man (the God-man) receives sinners" Luke 15:2 (javascript:NewWindow('bible.php?version=WEB&str_ref=Luke-15-2','p_bible','300','400','custom','front');); God "justifies the ungodly": Romans 4:5 (javascript:NewWindow('bible.php?version=WEB&str_ref=Romans-4-5','p_bible','300','400','custom','front');); for Christ goes to be guest with those who acknowledge themselves as sinners: Luke 19:7 (javascript:NewWindow('bible.php?version=WEB&str_ref=Luke-19-7','p_bible','300','400','custom','front');).

The first majors in what God requires of us.
The second majors in what God has done for us.

One religion puts all its stress on Christ our example.
The other puts its stress on Christ our substitute and representative.

One is a religion that leads to bondage, despair and death.
The other is a religion that leads to joy, salvation and life everlasting.
Scripture says that we were all ruined without asking for it and that we inherited a sinful nature. But the gospel teaches that we have all been saved without asking for it in the atoning work of Jesus our Lord. See 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 (javascript:NewWindow('bible.php?version=WEB&str_ref=2%20Corinthians-5-14-21','p_bible','300','400','custom','front');). Romans 5:10 (javascript:NewWindow('bible.php?version=WEB&str_ref=Romans-5-10','p_bible','300','400','custom','front');), Romans 5:18-19 (javascript:NewWindow('bible.php?version=WEB&str_ref=Romans-5-18-19','p_bible','300','400','custom','front');).

amen. My only disagreement is that Christianity is not a religion, it's a relationship with the one and only living God of the universe! :)

This is actually somegthing that I have been studying and am working on now, and will likely turn it into a paper to make it available on-line or perhaps turn it into one of my talks for a conference.

I have been going through a number of the cults, religions, and false movements in the church today and they all have some very specific doctrinal similarities and behjavioural similarities.

For eaxmple, these movements almost always, if not always will meet all of these three criteria:

1) Elevate man (i.e. we can become gods, we can save ourselves through works or other means - thus in part of whole denying the cross)
2) Bring God down (i.e. God must do what we ask, or like Mormonism, God was once a man)
3) Add to, remove from or otherwise try to dilute or discredit part or whole of the Bible.

If you're doing a comparison/contrast between Judaism and Christianity, then I would have to say that your premise is faulty. If you're not comparing/contrasting the two, then I don't have a comment.

.

Yes but Jesus Christ came into the world full of Grace and Truth. To balance them both is what Jesus did. Yes he showed great love and compassion and forgiveness, but he also spoke out against sin and against those who were not keeping God's righteous standards. Grace comes before judgement, but judgment comes if the grace is rejected. Loving a sinner by itself can become wishy washy, and truth can become too much to bear without love, but we must all face God's love and God's truth and admit that you, me everyone has sinned and cannot continue living in the sin without turning on the road to change. People need the truth to be spoken in love: anything else is not Godly.

Love the sinner but hate the sin, try to encourage the sinner to repent from the sin before it becomes full grown and gives birth to death.

God Bless

I would interpret the two religions as the false and the true. All religions other than the worship of the true God as shown in scripture all have very similar beliefs at the basic level.

The only reason I brought this up, Tom, is because of the law v. love statement.

That is something that I run into continuously regarding Christianity and Judaism. The "Old" Testament Law v. the "New" Testament Grace (Love).

It's a fallacy.

I will probably get shot for this, but I would argue that there are three "religions"/views. The first two were already mentioned, namely the "do this and God will accept you" and the "God gives grace to those who seek it"...

The third, I suggest, is a "Do whatever you want. You'll get into Heaven anyway" type of religion/belief system. This is what happens whenever you have the freedom separated from all expectations that God has, and when you are so selfish and egotistical that God is the one who has to bow down to you, and every lifestyle is acceptible because all you have to do is say a simple little prayer and you are free to live however you darn well please.

The truth is that God does have expectations for us, HIS people. It was by HIS initiative that we were adopted into HIS family, even though we are given the choice to accept or deny this adoption. But as part of HIS family, we have the responsibility to live like one who is part of it.

True. The law pointed us to Christ. One was prophetic, the other is the fulfillment.

James 1
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
