Hey, does anyone go to the Salvation Army churches? I am *pretty* sure we are non-denominational (The doctrines don't say anything about a denomination) I live in Fort Collins, Colorado, in the Intermountain Division. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

coolpearls - I thought "Salvation Army" was as denomination.

Seeing as how I've never attended one, I could be wrong...

I've been to a Salvation Army Church a few times and I also thought that the Salvation Army Church was a actual denomination. Maybe I'm wrong though. I'm not even sure what their theology classifies as.

I do like the Salvation Army churches though. The one I went to was very friendly. It was a little hard to get used to (was raised Southern Baptist) but it was very nice. I would probably go back sometime but the closest one is about 25 miles from here which is too far for me to drive with gas prices being so high. :(

I just thought you went there to get clothes....

OK I'm not that dense. I was always curious about what kind of services they had there and what the doctrine is.

I believe that the Salvation Army IS non-denom. I went to services many years ago and liked them. Standard doctrine, nothing whacky! :) I also appreciate the outreach and charity that the Army does!

The Salvation Army is a Christian denomination. As a ministry, they operate pre-schools, homeless shelters and elder care centers, as well as the ubiquitous thrift shops.

They are pretty standard Evangelical, with a few distinctives: They give their clergy military titles, like lieutenant and captain. They have a very low view of the sacraments- I don't think they do much baptizing. I believe, but may be wrong, that women can be in the clergy. They have a zeal to win lost souls to the Lord and they have great compassion for the downtrodden.
