View Full Version : SERVER MIGRATION COMPLETE! :)

This is an advance warning that in approximately 24 hours time, CF will have some scheduled downtime as we upgrade our current server cluster to an even larger private server network with with the addition of 4 new webservers.

The downtime will start on or about GMT 0500 on 30 October 2004 (Saturday morning) and last for 1-2 hours - ideally much less than that.

Bear in mind that due to potential unforeseen circumstances the downtime may be postponed till later - but I'm trying to make it happen as soon as possible.

After this upgrade CF should be okay for at least another 12 months I think. :) At the end of this, we will have 1 dedicated mail server, 1 dedicated DNS server, 1 dedicated IRC server, 1 dedicated load balancer, 1 dedicated image server, 4 dedicated Apache servers and 1 dedicated MySQL database server.

That's a LOT of servers. ;)

Please pray for a smooth transition.

UPDATE: I've figured out a way to minimize downtime - there may be NO downtime at all, or possibly 1-2 hours at the most. ;)

Sounds good. :)

1 dedicated mail server, 1 dedicated DNS server, 1 dedicated IRC server, 1 dedicated load balancer, 1 dedicated image server, 4 dedicated Apache servers and 1 dedicated MySQL database server.

Yeah, that is a lot or servers. I only own/run 2 servers. ;)

Thanks for the notice, Dr. Loh.

I'm glad I re-read it. At first glance I thought it said 24-48 hour downtime. I'd perish!! Truly I would!

Thanks for all your hard work. God knows (literally:D) how much we appreciate it.

The upgrade has been happening for the past 3 hours... still going on. I'm trying to keep CF online as much as possible. ;) It may be that we have no downtime... I am using interesting ways to divert traffic so CF remains online...

Wow! I didn't know the upgrade was already going on. I didn't even notice much of a difference! Great job Erwin!

The server migration is complete. :)

We are officially on our new server network.

I've been sitting in front of the computer for the past 6 hours. ;) Not bad.

ZERO DOWNTIME.

Basically, I connected the web servers one-by-one to the network.

There are a few known bugs.

The obvious one is the Chat-Box - it doesn't work properly. I've had to disable it for the moment. This is because problems trying to sync the chat together... Lots of lag between the servers. I'll think of something...

With nearly 1,000 users online, the site is FLYING. :) Server loads are tiny and we are not even close to capacity. The 4 new web servers are doing their job brilliantly.

Slow? It's never been faster for me. Like I said, loads are less than 0.5 on all our webservers.
