Hi,
I started to go to a Wesleyan church in October. There is also a Baptist church here I like, but the Baptist church is soooo big and I felt really left out.. the Wesleyan church was a lot smaller and friendlier and I really liked to go there. Are there any Wesleyans on here?
I even applied to Bethany Bible College.

I'm Methodist, which happens to be a subset of Wesleyanism.

Wesleyan comes from John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist church. There aren't any Methodist churches where I live.

I am a United Methodist. I like the reorganization of these forums into denominational rooms. Well, I guess they're not purely "denominational' if we are all lumped in as Weslyans, but nonetheless I think it is an improvement to the forum.
As a pre-schooler my family was Weslyan--then the Weslyan Methodist Church. About all I remember of it was how things changed when my family left the Weslyan Church and joined the Methodist Church. One day my sisters and Mom couldn't wear make-up, slacks, shorts, or jewlry. The next day they all took off to the store to buy make-up. There were fewer "amens" during church and we didn't have to kneel as much. How's that for a child's understanding of differences?

Nazarenes are also part of the Wesleyan tradition! The Church of the Nazarene is very similar to the Wesleyan denomination. Here in Maine, we have had some Wesleyan pastors serving in our Nazarene Churches, and vice versa.
BTW, John Wesley was an Anglican Priest until the day he died, and probably had no intention of starting a new denomination. He did, however, found Classic Methodism through his class meetings and systematic pursuit of holiness.

I remember seeing you online and wondering if you were a Wesleyan and saw the Church of Nazarene in your profile. I didn't know the Church of Nazarene was closely related to the Wesleyan church. There has been a Church of Nazarene here in my area for awhile, I can't remember how many years. The Wesleyan church is new, there's no actual church yet, it's being built and almost done but there have been meetings for a couple years apparently.

Bethany called me in January, the day I applied but I never heard from them since at all... no acceptance or rejection letter, no answer to my e-mails, I've been told "they will call me back".. so I just tried somewhere else and waiting to hear about residence! The only other place that accepted me wanted $250 for a res. waiting list and my mom doesn't want me going there anyway so I tried somewhere else.

My Wesleyan church is a lot different. I wear shorts, I wear pants.. I even wear jeans to church (decent ones).. I wear jewelry and there's all kinds of makeup used in our church.. No kneeling at all and not a lot of "amens" really..

From what I've read John Wesley supported creating a new denomination although he didn't support the idea initially but Charles Wesley opposed the idea his entire life and JW didn't want to fight with Charles about it.
