No temptation shall overtake you, except that which is allowed by God, and with the temptation you will also be given the means of escape.(or something along those lines!)
Would y'all be able to tell me where that is from?? (Not like I'm a Catholic who doesn't know the Bible or anything ;))
Thanks!! Peace be with you!

My NIV says it this way:
"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." - 1 Corinthians 10:13
What it means is that everyone is tempted similarly. All people, Christians included, have been and always will be tempted. Also, God fights for us here - He won't let Satan tempt us so well that we can't say no. He gives us the choice to reject this temptation and will provide at least one way for you to avoid giving in.

Thanks so much- I thought it was 1 Cor.- but my daughter is sleeping in the room where I left my Bible- which is , of course inside a bag inside a very squeaky closet!!
Thank you! Thank you!!
I love this passage and used to say it over and over hwen I was trying to quit smoking and to overcome sexual impurity-- it is very reassuring to know that God won't let us be tempted without also leaving us a means (usually prayer!) to not succumb to temptation. It also really helps me to remeber that ALL things in our life are a result of God's perfect will for us- even if it is allowing temptation so that we might understand more deeply- how much we need Him and how weak we are without Him as our rock and fortress!!
