I pray a little bit here and there all day long...I do a formal sort of praying first thing in the morning and last thing at night...
In the morning, I thank God for giving me another day to be here, to protect me and my family throughout the day and to keep me from sin, and to use me to glorify Him...
At night I thank Him for being with me that day and protecting me and my family from harm, I also ask for forgiveness of my sins of that day, and ask Him to send His Holy Spirit to be with me.

My 12 year old daughter, Jasmine, prays at night and it takes her so long...that she has told me that she falls asleep in the middle of prayer sometimes...I told her that was okay...she fell asleep in God's arms... :holy:
I told her she is being too specific, that is what takes her so long...but she insists on doing it her way...which is fine...she is a blessing to me...so sweet, so innocent...

I don't pray as often as I should. Infact I go weeks without praying sometimes. But I know when I do, I feel so much better. Just can't understand why I won't do it more often though. :sigh:

Can children be angels from God?
I think God has given them to us to teach us many things. :)
I love to listen to my children pray. What amazes me is that their prayers are so selfless.
Praying is part of my daily life. :)

Yes, yes, & yes. I am drawn to prayer like a moth to a flame, and it has been the consistent "calling" in my life as a Christian.

Should prayer be formal? I'm always informal with my prayers. I'm not Catholic or anything, I grew up with those rhyming prayers over dinner. For the first 10 or 11 years of my life I thouhgt that all prayers had to rhyme :D
Then when I was a teenager, I didn't believe in formalities at all. I was somewhat of a prayer "radical".
Now That I've spent half a decade or so in the military I understand how it it is a sign of respect to be formal. Does God want this or does he want more personal prayer?
I am of the feeling that prayer is when we share a sort of intimacy with God, it would almost break my heart to revrt back to formal prayer, but I want to pray how God want s me to pray. :help:

I feel I should pray more. I pray daily, at times I keep the lines open throughout the day. What's cool is when you sit down to pray and get up 45 minutes or an hour later, or whatever, and it only felt like a few seconds.
soulsisterclaire - Praise the Lord that that 12 year old of yours is specific when she prays. Encourage that, to an extent. When I was little I prayed for the napkins, forks, and spoons too... However, I learned to moderate my specifics to what I really meant.
coastie - I think it's personal prefrence. I feel perfectly comfortable talking to God as my "Daddy". I talk to him like I would a best friend. I can't do the formal stuff. I can't make a good connection that way. If I try to present anything to God that's not me it just doesn't work. He knows my innermost being! I just be me when I pray. If formal is you... well, there you have it.

I have been blessed with the burden of intercessory prayer. I can pray for hours and it feels like only moments have passed. I am new here, but on other Christian Message Boards, I am somewhat of a prayer warrior. I hope that the people posting on this website will get to know me, and allow me the honor of praying for them. Blessings to you all...YSIC, Lisa Renee

My prayers are sometimes like conversations with God. I have a hard time having a "formatted" prayer. I have been praying since I can remember, but I started the conversation type of prayers when I was about 12.It just comes easier that way. I usually don't have a certain time I pray unless someone asks me to pray for them at like say 2:00. I usually pray my way thru the day!! :)

i just pray whenever i feel like it, atleast once or twice a day, but my prayers are just sendings really, like when i need help on something i just say God help me with this, or something like that, so they are like what Sunnie63 said.

I try to pray every morning when I wake up just to thank God for another day but sometimes I forget. I always pray at night for the same reasons mentioned above. I also pray at various times through the day, sometimes for help or just to says thanks. I try to make a habit of praying before any sporting event I participate in as well and I can always sense the difference

At least a few times a day! I try to give more thanksgiving than requests. I just want God to know how much I appreciate the little things He does. And I think that everyone likes to be appreciated, whether it be people, or God.

I usually try to say my "morning offering" every morning, then I have some formal and informal night prayers that I usually say. My favorite prayer by far, however is the Rosary. It's so relaxing and even thought your lips are moving saying the same prayer over and over your mind is free to meditate on the "mystery" (FYI the mysteries of the Rosary are events in the life of Christ and Mary [i.e. <Joyful Mysteries> the annunciation, visitation, nativity, presentation, finding in the temple, <Sorrowful Mysteries> agony in the garden, scourging, crowning with thorns, carrying of the cross, crucifixion, <Glorious Mysteries> resurrection, ascension, descent of the Holy Spirit, assumption of the BVM, coronation of the BVM]). It's a very cool prayer.

To me prayer is not only kneeling down, closing my eyes, folding my hands, bowing my head,... To me prayer is talking to God and that I can do everywhere at any time. Just to say thank you Lord, I praise you Lord, I love you Lord or please help me, what do you think about this, what shall I do here...
So I would say it is a regular part of my life, but I wouldn't say that I'm a prayer worrier. This is something different, a very specific kind of prayer, called intersessory prayer. This is a person who battles on the behalf of others in prayer. I don't count myself to this group, but I still do it every now and then, because we are all called to pray on the behalf of others.

I pray all throughout the day....but I think that I really need to spend more time just in the quiet, on my knees, in prayer. Just me and God. It's one thing to talk to Him in the car, at work, everywhere...but to sacrifice a piece of my day...a half an hour or an hour just for Him alone...I think He deserves that.

Ah, well, I pray a good deal at odd times throughout the day. I'm not very good at saying my prayers in the morning, as my little one is squalling and wanting breakfast. About mid-afternoon, I take a block of time and pray for those in need who are on the list that my church provides each week, in addition to those who post prayer requests on the board. Then, as the beauty of God's creation moves me, whether sitting outside and watching the perfection of this world, I thank God for all of the little things that I take for granted each day. I don't usually pray for myself or my needs or anything until bedtime. I can sit in bed for what seems like forever, just talking with God. Unfortunately, this also means that I usually end prayer with sleep. lol I just can't seem to stop praying though, which means that I almost never get a chance to 'finish' my prayers at night. The only formal prayer that I ever say is the Lord's Prayer. For me, it is more heartfelt to simply come to God as I am, and that means with all of my stumbling thoughts and boogered up ideas. lol (I trip over my mental tongue alot)
Aside from that, I like to take a bit of time and just sing to God. I think that I read somewhere a quote that said, He who sings (hymns) prays twice. I thought it was cute, and I picked out songs that really express how I feel, so I use them as a form of sung prayer, and I really pour myself out to God.
Too bad I can't remember to say 'grace'..............but that is another thread. lol

After reading the bible in the morning, I usually pray for 10 or 15 minutes or until the Lord says that I am done. I pray daily that the Lord will teach me to pray the way he wants me to and the words he wants to hear me pray. I let his Holy Spirit guide me. My Heavenly Father teach me to be an intercessory prayer warrior!!

 I don't think I've ever spent more than 5 minutes in serious formal prayer. I guess because I always feel like God has so much to do that if I can sum it up quickly I should do so. Although I would love to spend one uninterrupted hour praying.
Just out of curiousity, I talk to God continuously throughout the day. And it's mostly in the form of talking to a best friend. I don't always end the talk with "in Jesus' name, Amen". Is that alright? To just continue throughout the day or should you always end each "talk" formaly?

I pray all day long. Just random things to say "Thank You" or "Help me" or "Help this person" for whatever reason. At night is usually my biggest prayer time when I can bumble about in my words and reflect on the day. Morning is usually "Hey thanks for letting me wake up again. That was mighty nice of Ya!" ;D

I think both types of prayer are good and important. Having a close relationship where you can just hang out and chat during the day is a great thing. But, making time to have an intimate conversation is also good. A time where you don't have other distractions. A time where you can focus on God. A time where you can share your deep feelings and listen to what God has for you to say.
It's just like any other relationship. Balance between formal & informal is healthy.
I would challenge you to start by spending just 5 minutes each day in dedicated prayer time. It may feel funny at first. You may not know what to do with a whole 5 minutes. That's okay. Just be there. Doesn't matter what time of day it is. But, it can be helpful to do it at the same time of day each day.

I pray about everything i do, apart from the necessities of life of course, and dwell with the Lord in prayer whenever i can, although you can in my experience communicate with the Lord throughout the day, this becomes easier over time (more natural and the first thought in each situation as you persevere with it) but the one thing the Lord has shown me throughout the years is not to follow the crowd. Yes its very important to pray, it should be the most important part of your life as from that intimacy with the Lord will come everything else, but if i was to choose to pray three hours a day because my friend does, yet the Lord wishes me to only pray for five mins, then the rest of that time is spent striving in the flesh through my own pride (desire to be spiritual). So if you all dont mind me saying, dont get hung up with the 'im not as spiritual as this one because i dont pray as much' lie. The most perfect prayer time or 'intensity of prayer' is the time that the Lord desires for you to be before Him in prayer. He knows your need. And if you dont know ask Him, wait quietly for Him to show you and trust that He will. Then go with what is on your mind to do, trusting that He will show you if you have got it wrong. Oh and before anyone says it, His answer wont be dont pray!! He will want you to pray!!

I pray each night before i go to sleep, but i will always pray throughout the day, lifting up my friends, lifting up myself, asking for strength from God, asking for help to move further with Him, anything at all. I find it an awesome experience to pray, peacefull somehow. I don't think prayers have to be formal, i think you should just talk to God as a friend. I live in a town called Greymouth and i'm part of the Youth Group scene, we have a message board on the net dedicated to prayer and other things to do with God, it's awesome because we can help each other out and put in some serious prayer for our town and the people living there. In conclusion i reckon prayer is a very necessay part of life as a christian and i find it a very gratifying experience.

Prayer is our strongest weapon against the enemy and our connection to the Lord. It is incense in His nostrals, this is our way of showing love towards one another, by praying for them, especially when we don't know them or we do and they aren't very lovable but that is how we can show Gods love. I have also found that praying for others is a way to let the Lord show you what they need, opening yourself to His will and what He knows is best for that person. Pray what He leads you to, not what you think. AMEN?!

Prayer is a part of my thought-life daily. My thoughts/prayers seem to reach out to God almost constantly. God is so good to hear what's in our hearts and upon our minds. Prayer has always come easily
Prayer comes first thing in the morning while walking the dog.
At the beginning of work I ask the Gods for help in helping others.
At meals for thanking the Goddess for her bounty
In the evening (while walking the dog no less)
And about a dozen other times during the day
I have no clue as to what a ‘prayer warrior’ is.

I pray every night wrapping up everything with God. But during the day, I talk to God, uttering whispers of thanks, catching His attention for some immediate help, and sometimes, just telling Him how happy/sad I am with what just happened. It's what others call breathing with prayer.
I recognize God's presence each and every moment of my life, and when I dont feel His presence at all, I am assured that He is there with me. It is a great joy to be able to talk with my God anywhere and anytime!

When you realise the Lord is with you always; walking, driving, working, sleeping; at the store, the gym, the movies, the beach, then you feel more free to maintain an ongoing conversation with Him. That's praying. Communicating with the Father. That's why He says to pray without ceasing.

Right On, Silas!
And just to add something, where Silas mentions that God calls us to "pray without ceasing" I wonder how many are surprised that is the closing statement to the section on the armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-18. It is a command and a necessary part of the Christian life to have a prayerful heart.

I pray consciously whenever I feel driven to it - often to my knees. This happens several times a day. I think about God and Jesus 24/7 - making decisions for God even in my not-so-nice dreams - Take that Satan! I talk about Jesus with everyone I can. I think all these things constitute "praying constantly".

I at least get in my morning prayers. Throughout the day I try to employ the Jesus prayer as much as possible.
I also take separate times to pray with my wife and then the rest of the family.
Prayer became easier once I became Orthodox and learned how to pray. And it helps that an Orthodox service is almost all prayer (minus the homily).
I long for the day I can say with the Psalmist "seven times a day do I pray."

Prayer (talking to God) is for me as natural as breathing. There are no 'formalities' but at any given point in the day, we converse as I would with anyone else. That kind of intimacy is important to me as I do not see Him only as God, but moreso as Father, and that makes all the difference in the world. As with any other natural relationships, I do set aside time for more intimate 'conversations' but for the most part, we do talk a lot.

I pray when I wake up and pray before going to sleep. I talk to our Lord when I'm on my way to work and when my heart aches I close my eyes and cry for His help and comfort.
And I pray before meal. Before lunch is a quickly thanks but when I'm home before dinner sometimes I open my heart to the Almighty God.

I would like to explain my vote of "It's a part of my life" vote.
What do you consider prayer?
Is it getting down on your knees, clasping your hands and making a heart felt plea for or about something?
or
Is it talking with God, constantely throught out the day, like he's standing right there with you.?
I do the later, so yes, Prayer is an integral part of my life

I want to get to the point in my walk where I pray consistently. Not because I have to but because I want to.I'm also theying to spend more time in prayer every day. Sometimes, you can realize with your head that you should do something yet you might not have the desire from the heart. I ask God that He will put it in my heart to seek Him more and more every day in daily prayer and reading His Word.
Really, I pray a few short times a day, and try set aside some time just for prayer, but it's been hard to do that. :(

I usually pray at least once a day for some reason. In church this past sunday the pastor gave a sermon on how we should try to set time aside for the Lord to pray and talk with him each day so I'm trying to do that starting with five minutes a day.

To tell you the truth, I've strayed away from prayer. Right now my life is so hectic that I sometimes forget to thank the Lord for the great things in my life. I need to pray more often, and I also know that I have to attend church. The last time I attended church was probably a couple of months ago, I cannot remember. But lately, I've been praying, praying for all that I have. :)

Nice topic.
To be honest, i pray everywhere , anytime. I say about every 2 hours all during the day. I pray in the bathroom, while im eating, before i eat, at the mall, in the snow , in the rain, when i get up , before i lay down, before i play video games, when i step outside, when im driving, before i get in the car, . The list can go on. Im use to praying and in order for someone to be protected, praying is the only option.

I pray at least 3 times a day, I know with faith and persistance I will get the answer I desire. One reason is JESUS said for us to be persistance and pray without ceasing. Jesus also said if we believe with our heart that it is our, we will recieve it. He never said doubt, and do not be persistant an I will still give it too you anyway . Yea of little faith. JESUS QUOTE "I say to you if you have faith of a little mustard seed, you can say to the mountain , go into the sea and it will obey. We must have massive faith and prayer will work everytime, so as long as it is not of sinnful nature. So I pray for everything.

i think that we need to opt for a non-mythological understanding of prayer. the idea of prayers being "petitions to deity" only makes sense if we become prayers. we become living sacrifices, we become prayers to God and thus we 'pray without ceasing'. becoming a living sacrifice is a process...

Yes, I have been lucky enough to really be able to enjoy the wonderfulness of prayer. At a different Christian site, I'm a prayer warrior and I pray daily in certain areas of the board. I also handle the prayer requests and I make sure other Prayer Warriors are praying and updating them as neccessary. I've also been blessed with helping other Christian friends by answering their questions on prayer and inspiring to include more prayer into their lives. Prayer is seriously an important power the Lord has blessed us with and we should keep ourselves imersed in prayer as much as we can. It'll also help us become closer with God. ~Angel

We've been told to always have a prayer in our heart. As for getting on my knees and praying...always try to pray in the morning, before meals, and at night. There are numerous times when prayer is necessary and too numerous to count. We should always be in constant communication to the Lord. It's the best way to maintain that close relationship with Him and it helps to strengthen our faith.

It depends upon what mood I am in. I usually don't pray unless I am seeking God's guidance or I am in trouble of some sort. I know I should pray more often but I don't usually know what to say during prayer. I don't often feel like I need God's help so I don't pray much.

It depends upon what mood I am in. I usually don't pray unless I am seeking God's guidance or I am in trouble of some sort.I don't often feel like I need God's help so I don't pray much.We should pray not just for our own personal requests, but on behalf of other's as well.
Also, take time to just Thank Him for all He does. Whenever I see beauty in the world, I try to say a quick prayer of thanks to Him for creating it. When I'm in a hurry and all the lights "magically" seem to time just right... I thank Him. When someone cuts us off in traffic and a collision is avoided...Thank Him for keeping you, and the other driver safe.
Prayer is our way of keeping in touch with the Lord. Try saying a few "mini-prayers" throughout your day and it will comfort you and help you to stay focused on Him.
I know I should pray more often but I don't usually know what to say during prayer. At night, before bed, I dedicate 15 minutes at least to serious prayer.
In Luke 11,1 the disciples asked the Lord Jesus to teach them how to pray.
He responded by teaching them what we know now as "The Lord's Prayer".
We should take each section and change it to reflect our own thoughts and needs.
"Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name."
Acknowledge that you are speaking to Him and are honored and humbled before Him.
"Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven."
Acknowledge His will for a new kingdom on earth to unfold as it is in heaven.
"Give us this day our daily bread."
This is when we lay out our requests for Him. Tell Him what you want for your life, your friends and family, and others throughout the world, whether it be financial, personal, spiritual, or whatever. Yes He knows your needs, but it show's your faith and trust in asking Him.
"And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us."
Repent of your daily sins. Admit to the ones you remember and ask Him to show you the ones you don't. Also ask for forgiveness for other's that may have harmed or hurt you.
"And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil."
Ask that He guide you away from the things that hinder you from being closer to Him. Ask that He help you to do the right thing in all situations.
" For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever."
Amen.
Give Him His glory and thank Him for all He has given you.
I hope this is helpful :pink:

Just a quick anecdote.... while watching The 700 Club the other day, Pat Robertson was starting a prayer chain for "Operation Breakthrough". There had been a brief infomercial type clip on what the specific needs to address would be. Usually I don't have coverage of the war on the T.V when my babies are in the room, but I was engulfed and not giving it much thought.
Anyway, as I was beginning to pray with him, my 2 year old little girl came over and knelt beside me, put her hands under her chin, closed her eyes, and prayed " Dear Jesus, Please make everything normal again, AaaaMen!"
So simple, yet so complete.

As christians were are commanded to pray always and continually. The reason this is is that prayer is communication with God. If Jesus really is within us then it would just be rude to not speak to Him. When a friend comes over we don't ignore them. We interact with and talk to them. God wants this too. He wants us to talk to Him and become a friend to Him. He is more than our Savior and when we speak to Him we begin to really know Him.

For me, I pray throughout the day. But how do you actually know if God acknowledges your prayer? You cannot pray without first repenting. At least, your prayers cannot be answered if your life is not right. Think about it. Also, think about what you say. Carefully....no babble. Do not offer "sinful" prayers. There is a such thing by the way.

I pray a good bit, though I've been slacking a lot these days. Right now, I'm probably praying about ten or so times a day. It may seem like a lot, but it's really not. Nine or so five-minute prayers and a thirty to forty-minute prayer in my quiet time at night. That makes for just around an hour and a half.
Considering that I sleep about six or seven hours, that leaves about eighteen hours of awake-time. Subtracting my prayers, that leaves over sixteen hours each day that I'm not staying directly connected with God. Far too much time.
It seems a bit more extreme now, huh?

The Holy Spirit who indwells in our being is constantly in communion with us. Pray is a conversation with the Holy Spirit, Jesus or God. They are all always listening. I have God continually on my thoughts, and He is always talking to us. How much do we talk with the person that we are trully in love with? How much more are we in love with GOD? Never forget
He is there right with us, always at only a wisper away. :amen:

Prayer is simply communication with God...He is with us continually and if we are aware of that we communicate with Him continually. It's just as natural as breathing. It's not talking...it's not words...it's just being with Him and being aware of Him and what He is showing us, telling us and sharing everything with Him. When I see something wrong, my thoughts turn to the Lord and my heart begins a communication for that situation. Praise, Worship, supplications, warfare, intercessions, ministries, true good works all begin this way...and the Lord leads us from there.
Yes Hopper...without ceasing....the Word makes it clear, doesn't it... and I am so grateful for this amazing connection. It's why we were created....to have fellowship with Him.

It's become a regular part of my life 'cause through God's Grace it has been revealed that God wants a very intimate relationship with all of us. This means honesty, but more importantly, it means we are able to talk with God anywhere and anytime. I have 20/20 vision, but when it comes to spiritual matters and tomorrow, I am so blind the only corrective lens available is the Holy Spirit.

it is not easy to pray. wish i could say that i pray continually as the bible says but i havent really prayed continually for one whole day...something would always cut my prayerful attitude, my connectedness to His presence. right now i am striving to connect with Him first thing and last thing. but when i am led to pray for something or someone, i do. i am very much blessed by people who would stop talking with you and start praying for you for just a while...
that gives me a lot to aspire to... a day of praying continually, spontaneous prayer, and one more thing. i really would love to spend a day with just Him.

I used to pray either once I woke up in the morning or before I would go to bed at night. But now because of my circumstances I am in continualy conversations with the Lord throughout the day. Yet I have become depressed because my prayers seem to go unanswered :sigh:

If prayer is considered when a person speaks to God on a personal level, then I pray all day long because it seems that I am always talking to Him. I consider Him my best friend. I can talk to Him about anything.

It is regular part of my life… Without prayer, I would go stir-crazy. ;)
Prayer is a very important thing. Prayer is fellowship with God… and how much of that is enough? :)
I try to pray as often as I can, but sometimes I just get one in a day. (besides the blessings for the meals)

Yeah, every day! It's very fun to pray, I think. Just think: you're talking to the Creator of the universe, God Almighty.

ditto; sometimes I don't get in a quiet time as much as I would like but I always try to pray silently throughout the day and keep the presence of the Lord in mind.

I pray about 2-3 times a day, but I think I need to commit to more 'quality' prayer...something more then a routine fleeting 'thank you Lord....' prayer.

Being honest - I struggle with prayer and I'm not sure why. I consider myself an above average speaker (I speak in front of groups frequently and enjoy it) but when it comes to prayer I stumble for words. I'm working on it though and know I don't pray enough.:help:

I pray almost every hour I'm awake. I pray a lot at school...sometimes if I see something extraordinary, I just stop and thank God for it. I see some people in my community that seem to be having trouble, and without even knowing their names, I'll whisper a prayer for their protection, and His guidence in their lives.
Prayer is such an outlet for me and I feel icomplete without it. It is a little, cozy, comfortable corner in the rough everyday life...I don't see how Non-Christians make it through...

I pray every night before I go to bed. I have my one-on-one time with God to thank him for everything from that day/recently. I talk to him throughout the day, and I guess that's considered praying, but I only really count at the end of the day. I also say the Lord's Prayer, because it's the only one I know.

I do a formal prayer at night. But mostly I just have an ongoing conversation with God. I speak to him many times through the day, sometimes to praise him, sometimes to ask questions, sometimes for strength. This makes me feel like I have more of a relationship with him than if I only did formal prayers.
