I believe it's an English form of the Greek "Christos," which means "Messiah."

Both words mean "Anointed One." Someone whom God has chosen for a special purpose.

But Christ had always existed; he was never "created" right? So why is he chosen?

Does it mean he was chosen as a being to do what he was meant to do (crucified for the sins of man) or just did God choose something (chose to save mankind from sin) and he sent his son down to act out this chosen action...?

Christ is the Eternal Word of God, who became incarnate in time to save us.

His mission is our salvation.
